Godolphin entries come together with Steven Burridge trained Dark Matter in the Group 3, UAE 2,000 Guineas on 9th February
One of the most popular races during the eighth fixture of the Dubai World Cup Carnival that begins on Friday 9th February is the Group 3, UAE 2,000 Guineas sponsored by Dubal for which Godolphin Racing has entered Kinglet and Rassam.
This would not be the first time that the two will race during the new season rather both will be making the second starts of their new season.
On 12thJanuary, both the horses collided in the UAE 2,000 Guineas. Mahmood Al Zarooni trained Kinglet was the runner up of the race while to finish third after the winner was Rassam, the 8/11 favourite of the race and is under training Saeed bin Suroor.
The race was won by Steven Burridge conditioned Dark Matter who broke through the wire first on a field that was set for fourteen to race.
Saeed bin Suroor said: “Rassam was too keen on his first start of the year and I hope that we can get him to settle better this time. I think that he will have no problem with the step up in trip but the key is to get him to relax in his races.”
Mahmood Al Zarooni remarked: “Kinglet was beaten by a nice horse in the trial and the winner looks like the one to beat again. I think we have a small chance of reversing the form - a mile will be a better trip and Mickael Barzalona knows the horse well now.”
Despite the fact that none could win the race, the places that the Godolphin entries reserved are only the next best option to winning.
The three-year-old brown colt of Kingmambo out of Karen’s Caper, Kinglet had won two out of the four starts from the 2011 season while the remaining resulted in places.
Saeed bin Suroor’s under charge, the three-year-old brown colt of Dansili out of Vantive, Rassam only made two career starts till yet, the first a victory and the latter, a third position. So the race will be the third career start and second seasonal outing.
The winner of the prior race in which the duo participated was won by Dark Matter who was successful in upsetting both the entries and taking the lead. He will once more share the lineup with Rassam and Kinglet on 9th February in the Group 3, UAE 2,000 Guineas.
The race has attracted a lineup of nine participants that includes Sand Stamp and Surfer trained by S Seemar, Burano and Mehdi under training Brian Meehan, Al Raihe trained Noor Zabeel and Mickdaam representing De Kock.
Two Godolphin entries from the attendance of nine participating, is a fair enough draw however, Godolphin has won the race five times already, the most recent one being last year in 2011 when Splash Point thundered through the distance.
