Goh Giap Chin upset with his first-round show at National Junior Circuit GP Finals – Badminton News
Malaysia’s Goh Giap Chin, who is defending champion at National Junior Circuit GP Finals, is not happy with his Boy’s Singles first-round performance against Chia Yi Jie, being played at Juara stadium, Malaysia, on May 18.
Goh Giap, who is one of the best junior shuttlers in the whole country, had to work hard against his weaker opponent, Chia Yi, despite the fact that the former won the fight in straight games with a difference of 21-14 and 21-16.
However, Goh Giap was not happy with the result of the match as he did not deliver an expected performance.
While talking about his performance after the match, he said, “It was not as easy as it seemed as my opponent made me work hard for every point. I was not at my fittest as I had just recovered from a high fever and it showed as I was a little slow and distracted
at times.”
Goh Giap further added that he was trailing behind his opponent at 10-14, but he worked really hard and also remained lucky to win the set against Chia Yi.
He further added, “During the break in the second set, my coach warned me that I would not be able to last a rubber set with my current fitness level. After that I came out to play at my pace and I’m glad to get past the first hurdle.”
The other major contender in the event, Zulfadli Zulkifli, will open his campaign today against Ai Wei Jien, who defeated Ng Di Hua in the first-round in a thrilling three-set fight.
Goh Giap, who had high fever a few days ago, is not at his best physical condition. He needs to work more hard to find his momentum to get into the finals of the event. As he is defending champion in this event, he needs to play better in the next matches
to secure his title.
Goh Giap is expected to face Zulfadli in the final, which will be a wonderful clash, as these two shuttlers are expected to enter in the national squad of Malaysia in the near future.
