Goh Jin Wei and Zulkiffli brothers are favourites for the crown in the National Junior Circuit
Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei is the major claimer of the crown in Girls’ category, whereas, the Zulkiffli brothers which include Zulhelmi, Zulfaiz and Zulfadli are among the favourites in the Boys’ category, in the second leg of the National Junior Circuit.
The event is the second-leg of the national circuit comprising of the U12, U16 and U18 categories, to find new talent from every corner of the country.
Goh Jin proved her skills by winning two titles in the first-leg of the national circuit, which was played in March, 2011. She won the crown in the U12 Girls’ singles and doubles category.
In the final showdown of the Girls’ singles, Goh Jin worked very hard against Desiree Siow and won the match in three sets with the 18-21, 21-13 and 21-19 score on the board. In the Girl’s doubles final, Goh Jin and Ooi s**+ Han thrashed the pair of Kong
Yi Jin and Lim Ming h*i, in a one-sided straight-set match.
Goh Jin has the honour of helping the World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, in his fund raising campaign through badminton matches for the Earthquake and Tsunami victims of Japan. Chong Wei is optimistic for the bright future of Goh Jin in badminton, not only
at the domestic level but also at international level. Chong Wei also gave him the name of ‘world beater’.
In the Boys’ category, Zulheimi delivered a terrific performance throughout the first-leg of the National Junior Circuit and emerged as the winner of the Men’s singles U16 title. Zulfadli also proved his worth by winning two titles in the opening edition
of the two-leg national circuit. He won the Men’s singles title in the U18 category. He also clinched the Men’s doubles crown with his partner and brother, Zulfaiz, in the same category.
The basic purpose of the National Junior Circuit events is to identify potential young shuttlers and to prepare them for representing the country at international level. The junior events have always remained as a major source of talent hunt in the country.
These national junior events have discovered many great shuttlers including the World Number Three Men’s pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon.
The event has already found many potential junior players including Tee Jin Yee, Goh Liu Ying, Vivian Hoo, Sanatasah Saniru, Ng h*i Ling and Woon Khee Wei. All of these shuttlers are working hard in their training sessions under the supervision of competent
coaches.
These kind of junior events have become the need of the hour to generate better shuttlers as Malaysia is suffering with a dearth of players. The country has only a few shuttlers including Lee Chong Wei, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon, who are working well at
the international arena.
