Goh Soon Huat makes way into pre quarter-finals of 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG
Malaysia’s spirited shuttler Goh Soon Huat stretched his winning streak in the Syed Modi International India GPG and powered his way to Men’s Singles pre quarter-finals on December 19, 2012.
He was up against the local player Rohit Yadav C. in this second round match which was staged at Lucknow, India.
Though, the Malaysian campaigner wrapped this showdown in just two games but still he had to put an extra effort to register a favourable result of 21-16 and 21-19.
There was a lot of drama in first set as at one stage Rohit Yadav was in strong position to pocket this vital match point but then Soon Huat turned the tables with a staggering knock.
Initially, the Indian shuttler raised his chances of success by clinching five consecutive points and then doubled the impact with some back-to-back productive rallies.
His hard work took him to a commanding position and he managed to pile up a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, Soon Huat showed a transformed character and tipped the scale in his favour.
At first, he levelled the score at 14-14 and then made a notable difference on the points table with 18-15 total.
He did not lose this pace and bagged three out of ending four points to place a winning margin of 21-16.
The second set was also a nerve-racking contest as both contenders challenged each other in all departments of game and stayed close until the final moments.
Initially, Soon Huat capitalised his first set win and established decent lead in no time. He kept on moving forward at steady pace and left Rohit Yadav far behind on the score log.
He was enjoying an upper hand with 11-5 total when the native shuttler pocketed many valuable points without any interruption and widened the gap.
The Indian player showed great precision in his craft and remained close all the way to game point situation but then few unforced errors brought him down.
Soon Huat struck hard when it mattered and locked the honour with a decisive figure of 21-19. He will meet a compatriot shuttler Misbun Ramdan Mohmed Misbun in pre quarter-finals of 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG.
