Goh V Shem determined to hit the mark in Thomas Cup Finals – Badminton News
Men’s Doubles expert Goh V Shem of Malaysia is in high spirit to make a strong statement with his partner Lim Khim Wah in Thomas Cup Finals set to be held in Wuhan from May 20-27.
The duo of V Shem-Khim Wah is currently ranked 26 in world rankings and they are participating in esteemed team event as second Doubles team after national number one pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
Though, it is going to be their first appearance in Thomas Cup Finals but spirited member of the duo V Shem looked confident to register their presence by using valuable experience of past.
He said, "We have always produced the same effort in individual and team events. But we have done better in team events and this gives us confidence ahead of the Thomas Cup although we will be playing for the first time."
The twosome of V Shem and Khim Wah made their debut of team events in 2011 Sea Games when they played as first Doubles pair in the title against Indonesia.
They locked all the attentions by overwhelming World Number six pair Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano in final match.
Later, the Malaysians lived up to their billing in Thomas Cup qualifiers also as they secured country’s honour in quarter-finals with a stunning performance against Korean duo Lee Yong Dae-Shin Baek Cheol.
The 23-year-old shuttler V Shem is positive to repeat the history in Thomas Cup Finals as he claimed to have the potential to outshine every world class pair.
He said, "We had good results in the Sea Games and Thomas Cup qualifiers and we are looking forward to playing our role in the final round in Wuhan. I think we can do our part against most of the opponents."
Men’s Doubles experts V Shem and Khim Wah will be up against top pairs like Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng, Lee Yong Dae-Jung Jae Sung, Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen, Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano and Ko Sung Hyun-Yoo Yeon Seong.
Earlier, Doubles head coach Tan Kim Her also gave his vote of confidence to underrated couple and hoped that they will play a vital role if World Number eight Malaysian duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong falters in Thomas Cup Finals.
