I agree with the others . Just do the day tours you will have plenty to do in Patong

Depends if you want a relaxing vacation or not?! If you stay in Phuket you could do the tours to the other islands as day trips, then you dont have to take all your gear with you everywhere. The tours are really cheap. We did a day trip around 4 different islands in 1 day including snorkeling, you can see so many islands in a day. Especially if you go by speedboat. As some one else mentioned, the sea can get rough, especially on the return trip if its after 5pm (According to the guide).

I think you have have full day to another island because nearby island very nice nad they will impress you.

visiting phi phi is great too.  

A number of tour companies offer trips to Phi Phi; most are very good and safe. Just remember: you get what you pay for. A good trip to Phi Phi should cost you between 2400 Baht and 2800Baht. When you find them offering trips for under 2000Baht, there is usually a reason why they are so cheap.

All Phi Phi Islands visits include pickup from your hotel lobby, some snorkeling, and relaxing for a couple of hours on their clean beaches. None of the trips are more than 10 hours in length (even the half day trip is also 7-8 hours). In all, they are all safe and cover exactly same locations. But the tour info desk staff will advise you best.

A week would be rushing it. But it depends on where you want to go. For example a day trip to Phang Nga would be sufficient.

A day trip to Phi Phi (on a tour) is enough but I think to truly appreciate it, an overnight stay or even 2 nights is best. That way you get to see Phi Phi in the early morning and evenings away from the crowds and hordes of tourists (who are all there on day trips). But bear in mind that accommodation is way more overpriced in Phi Phi than in Phuket.

Day trips to other islands (such as Racha, Similian etc) are enough especially if you do a full day inclusive snorkelling/diving tour. Pricey but worth it. But they're only operational during the high season. In low seasons it's too dangerous to travel to these islands.

having  said  that,  i  think  phi phi  island  is  wrth  staying  fr  3 days  as  the  beach  is  fantastic  and  the  silence  was  heavenly(  i  stayed  in  garden villa  in  phi phi island  village  resort  .but  its  ridiculously  expensive)

If you only stay a week day-tours will do to give you an impression about neighbor islands. But beware of the weather going by boat since the sea can be rather rough in August-end October.
