Question:

Going To Install Avast On New Computer. What Other Programmes Should I Install?

by  |  earlier

There is nothing on the computer, no programmes at all.

I will install Avast as I believe that it is very good.

That is only one programme, though.

What other programmes should I install?

Would appreciate your views.

Thanks.

  1. Avast is well known in the industry as being the best free spyware/virus protection program, and 2nd best overall behind Kaspersky.

If you are asking about this type of program, then Avast should be good enough.

But other installs should be Java, Office 2007 or Open Office, Adobe Acrobat 9, Flash Player, all latest windows updates, and maybe a game or two depending on personal preferences

  2. Get PCTools spyware doctor from the Google Pack download while you are there take Firefox and Google earth.

  3. avast is good but avg free is a bit better.

other programs you would want are

    1 ad-aware, for spyware

    2 spybot, for spyware

3 ccleaner, cleans history, cookies and registry junk.

    that's what i would advise

  4. depends what you're interested in doing: programming? graphics? music?

  5. avast is good but i prefer AVG better i have the serial for that if you need ;) . nero 8 is excellent, graboid is good, utorrent, itunes, vlc, frostwire, microsoft office(open office is good too). Those are some good ones that i use alot. If you want to get them for free use the utorrent program and mininova.org to search for the un free ones.  FIREFOX!!!! almost forgot that one

email me at speeder_nirmal@hotmail.com for help on getting these

  6. Open office.

    imgburn.

    dvd shrink.

    spyware blaster.

  7. hi mate

good choice with avast4.8,this is by far the best free alternative in anti-virus software, until recently it was my first choice of anti-virus,however i have just started a 12 month subscription of microsofts live onecare, which i have to admit i am very impressed with

the anti-virus/spyware scanner is excellent and the back up and system tune-up are great little extra,s

as a good combination with avast ,i would go for spybot(http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl... and spyware blaster(http://www.download.com/SpywareBlaster/3...

spybot is a excellent scanner however its strength lies with its imunization feature, this protects you from future spyware attacks, and this works by planting dummy registry keys to fool the spyware

spyware blaster isnt a scanner but a blocker,it protects you from spyware and adware by blocking bad sites and urls, you need to keep this updated on a regular basis to get the most out of this software

as a firewall i have allways used the windows deafult firewall, however live onecare has its own firewall however if you need a good free firewall then you should try "Ashampoo® FireWall FREE " from http://www2.ashampoo.com/webcache/html/1...

this is a excellent free firewall and is up there with comodo and zone alarm for quality of protection

the user interface is nice and easy to use and the firewall works with both incoming and outgoing traffic unlike the windows default version

finally depending on the security software you decide to install i would also use "windows defender",from microsoft

this again has no scanner but works in a stealth type mode,if it detects anything it will let you know and you decide what action to take

the only time i got infected when using windows defender the program actually stopped me from accessing the internet,i cleaned the infection and i was allowed back online

some people would get annoyed with this amount of intrusion however i think this is a excellent idea, the last thing you want(or should do) when infected is go back online, windows defender is a great program and extremely easy to use

theres another anti-spyware program thats had some excellent reviews in pc mags, spyware doctor has had some of the best detection rates of any spyware scanner, and unlike other scanners spyware doctor will take time out to explain to you what each and every spyware/adware infection is and its threat level

as we all know cookies can be looked on as spyware however they are low in threat ,however some other spyware such as ezula and spy-axe are potentially fatal spyware and extremely difficult to clean, and in most cases these require a complete windows re-installation to ensure total eradication

when using spyware/adware detection software its well documented that its best to install three or four different anti-spyware programs so as to give you a good all round defence, for example spybot works in a different way to windows defender as does spyware blaster,so each will protect you in different areas

i hope this helps, however any problems let me know

                 good luck mate !

  8. malwarebytes antimalware is a good one. Also look a zone alarms personal firewall.  for a cleaning utility use cc leaner
