Going away next week, question about flying?

We are going to CA next week and are flying with our 4 kids. Does anyone know what the baggage rules are now a days? It's been awhile since we've flown and I heard something about having to pay for baggage now. Does anyone know anything about this?

I want to try and pack everything into as few bags as possible if it's going to cost a lot for each bag. I have looked at the website of the airline and all it says is one bag limit then $25.00 for each additional but I am not sure that means per person, or per group. Like is that one free bag for all of us together or one for each of us? I tried emailing them at the help center as well but I haven't got a response and we leave Saturday!

I'm posting this in the parenting section because I figure parents who fly with kids would know more.

  1. no you can have one bag per person and 25.00 for each additional bag for each person i know it sucks but you can have a bag go on with each of you.

  2. It's one bag per person and then they start charging you $25 for each additional bag after that. For carry-ons you basically get two per person(personal item and carry-on).

  3. Hi,

It depends on which airlines you go with. But mostly, I would say 40lbs for each case. You should pack them into as less bags as possible unless you want to charge for an extra bag.

Btw, i read on news that sometimes they don't allow to bring laptop to the flight.

    Hope it helps.

  4. Most airlines still allow 1 bag per person to be checked free of charge. You are also allowed to have a carry-on. I was recently told that if you had additional bags, checking them online before the flight would help cut costs of baggage.

  5. One bag per each person with a ticket.  So if your family of 5 will each have a seat on the plane, that is one bag for each.  If one is on your lap, then I think 4 suitcases is the limit.
