Going away on holiday for 2 weeks Will my hamster be ok?

She is about one year old, we are going away to tenniriffe tommorow and we are all packed and we gave the hamster two water bottles full to the top, a handfull of food ( we are giving her another one before we leave) and a fruit stick. ( we are giving her another one before we leave)

The trouble is she has already took all the food from the fruit stick and the food bowl and stored it. She also has a wheel in her cage and some little hamster toys. The cage is very secure

We are worried about her because we usually take her out 1 - 2 times a day and she wont be taken out at all now. We cant get anyone to look after her

Will she have enough food and water?

will she have enough exercise???????????

As you can see i dooooo love my little hammy friend :D

  1. Im afraid your hamster will not be ok. I know you probably dont want to hear that but its true. Apart from the water going off, your hamster will probably starv as it will eat all of its food up very quickly! Also i have had many hamsters in the past and i know they get bord very quickly and will probably drive himself insane if he is kept in the cage for 2 weeks!! I think thats too long. I suggest you definately find someone who can check in on him whilst your away even if its just a couple of times. Then they can change water and lay down some new food and hopefully get him out for a while.

    Good luck

  2. give her 2 or 3 water bottles make sure they are cold then give 2 food dishes OVER LOAD THEM  hide some treats in the cage make sure there is no way she can get out for her cage because she will starve to death and as long as you have a wheel in her cage she should get enough exersice if you are to scared ask the local pet store if they can do it for you i have dont that alot this summer becasuse i am allwayss on holiday!!!!

  3. You cannot leave the hamster. It's illegal and likelihood is when you get back from holiday you won't have a hamster. As you said she's eaten all her food already so how will she know that she has to stretch the food for 2 weeks. A hamster is still a pet, just because it's not a cat or a dog doesn't mean you can neglect it.

  4. I don't think it's very responsible to leave an animal unattended, but I do think your hamster will survive.  Hamsters store their food up in their little house for later so I think it will have enough food.  The water will be rank though because that needs changing everyday.  Keep the cage in the shade if so the water doesn't go green with the sun light.  The hamster will get enough exercise running around the cage and in the wheel.

Your hamster will survive but I really don't think you should leave it alone while you go on a two week holiday.  Surely someone can check up on it and change the water.  You shouldn't own a pet if you can't look after it.  Even though it's only a hamster that cost about £5 and lives for 2 years, you still shouldn't own an animal if you cannot provide proper care for it

  5. Not for two weeks, it's not the food and water that's the problem, it's the state of the cage from the hygiene point of view. You can't leave a hamster for two weeks in it's own filth. The longest you can really leave them is 5 days as long as they have plenty of food and water. You need to get a friend or someone to pop in once or twice to check and clean up a bit.

  6. Do you have friends that can watch her? Or ask a friend to come to your house and check on her! Or even a neighbor you can really trust? 2 weeks is too long! And where I live, my house can get extremely hot, so we ended up leaving our cat here with the ac on. A friend of mine would come check up on her. And I know you love your little hammy friend. :)

  7. well,

    the water will dry up/evaporate

the food will go stale and hamsters don't eat stale food

a couple of handfulls arent enough anyway

her cage won't be cleaned and seeing as its summer, have you thought about fly strike, its a possibility.

You may mean well but im afraid leaving an animal like this is creulety :(

isn't there a relative, friend or neighbour you can ask just to check in and change the water and food?

  8. i dont think he will be alright.  He might be dead by the time you get back.  Animals need to be fed and watered everyday, they dont know how to ration their food...he will eat it all up in a matter of days then he will starve.  You will have to find someone to look after him.  these little animals depend on you to take care of them, you CANNOT just leave him alone for 2 weeks.

  9.   only if you have my dragon watch over him.........wha ha ha ha ha.....wrong section

  10. It will be fine

Just pop it in the freezer till u get back

A man brings his hamster to the vet's office and lays the hamster on the

examining room table. The vet looks at the hamster and says: "I'm sorry sir,

    your hamster is dead."

Not at all happy with the vet's diagnosis, the man demands, "I want a second

    opinion!"

The vet whistles and in comes a Labrador Retriever. The lab sniffs the

hamster for a minute, looks up, and shakes it's head. "The lab says your

hamster is dead." replies the vet.

"I want a third opinion!" The man demands. So the vet opens the back door

and in bounds a cat, who jumps on the table. The cat looks the hamster up

and down for a few minutes before looking up and shaking it's head. The vet

responds: "Your hamster is definitely dead, sir."

"All right what do I owe you?" The man asks, finally satisfied with the

    diagnosis.

"That will be $650, please." The vet replies.

"WHAT?? $650 just to tell me my hamster's dead????"

"Well sir, it would have only cost you 50 dollars for my diagnosis. However

the other $600 was because you insisted on having the cat scan and the lab

    test."

  11. Animals are remarkably resilient and can survive without us. Indeed many would do much better without us humans stomping around.

Your hamster has already done what it's instincts tell it to and that is store the food for hard times because in the wild they cannot always guarantee regular food supplies and they manage just fine.

Just make sure there is plenty of water, maybe even put a bowl full in the cage too.

  12. well that is ok but give your hammie 2 hand fulls insted of one but you should have a friend check on your hamster once in while and make sure he has enough food and water he will have enough exercise as well as long he has a hamster wheel. i dont think he'll mind not getting pet because i have a hamster and he really dosn't mind being alone for a whlie i hoped i helped

  13. No you don't love your hampster. That's cruel!!

Someone should report you to the RSPCA.

Your sick and i hope myou have an awfull holiday because of what your doing!!

  14. NO he will not be okay!!! He will eat all the food in the first week and die of starvation. The water will become stail and will poison the hamster. Give it to a neighbour to look after whilst you go away or someone will report you to the RSPCA for animal cruelty!!!

  15. You have to bring that hamster to a friends house while you are gone.  You can not leave him alone, he needs his cage cleaned and he needs fresh food.  You would not want to eat food that had been sitting in a bowl for 2 weeks.
