Question:

Going for a long bike ride...?

My brother and I are going to be riding our bikes about 30 miles next week to see our grandparents and I was wondering, would it be too much for me? Last time I was weighed, which was last year, I was 225 and I doubt I lost much. The farthest I've riden on bike was about a mile and a half, possibly two miles, and I wasn't too tired but 30 miles...hmm. Of course, there IS a gas station along the halfway mark where we could break for a few minutes but would it still be too much work for someone my weight?

  1. This is impossible for us to answer for you. Whether it is doable or not depends on you.  We can tell you it will be very difficult.

I remember the first few times I tried to ride 24 miles.

I weigh about 50 pounds less than you and I had to stop about 5 or 6 times.

When you consider all the time to stop (either to rest or because of stop lights and such) make sure you allocate about 3 or 4 hours to accomplish this ride.

Make sure your family knows the route you and your brother will take just in case something happens.  Bring a cell phone or money for phone call and bus if all else fails.

    have fun and be safe.

  2. Yeah, 30 miles for the first time without any training may not be a good thing.  Remember hills can be tough, and your tush gets tired after a while.  Rethink it.

  3. go out and ride your bike like 10-15 miles. IF you can do that for like 3 days in a row, you'll be fine.

  4. I don't know you so how could I tell!

  5. i think you should try and stretch your limits. go for the experience and if you can't do it, work out by biking for 2-3 miles then the next day go a little longer if that's too hard, make it every week instead

  6. 30 miles is seriously long. I advise you not to go unless you're positive, and if you've only ridden that much before then you shouldn't go.
