i have an F-1 visa interview scheduled for 28 thof December, and am soooo much afraid to the bones.I went for a documentational review at the Consulates educational advisor and i was frankly told that the officers rarely grant F-1 to community college student applicats. Most of this other applicants are attending 4 yr colleges and am just shivering from what the lady told me at the consulate, should her statement be a scare to my visa application? Can my comm.college be a disadvantage on that day if most student are applying to 4yr colleges and am attending a comm.college? How can i really impress the officer if i chose a comm.college? As an upcoming neurosurgeon and want to start tertiary at comm.college b4 transfering, can this be a CONCRETE AND TANGIBLE REASON?Do they compare schools during F-1 visa section interviews?any reasons an officer may deny a student bcos of not attending a 4yr college but a 2yr comm.college?Any setbacks i may face dat day for my decision to a comm.college?conti..

  1. Read the answers to your previous question but to address the ones you have brought to light in this one.

    1) The Consulates educational adviser is completely wrong, Consular Officers grant F1 visas to community colleges applicants on a regular basis, granted most applicants will be applying to 4-year institutions but there there is no prejudice or bias shown to either applicant.

    2) No it will not be a disadvantage, the criteria used to judge all applicants is the same regardless of where they chose to study

    3) Concrete and tangible reason, just be honest. The most likely two questions they will ask you are these - A) Why do you want to study at this institution? B) Why did you chose this course? - Have valid reasons and be prepared for both questions.

    4) No they do not compare schools, it does not matter if you wish to study at a community college or an Ivy League school again the criteria is the same.

    5) No there will be no setbacks for choosing a community college, there only setbacks you will face is if your application for are not filled in correctly, you fail to answer the questions asked to a satisfactory standard, you fail to prove your financial support and your intentions to return home upon completion of your studies.

  2. Wow, that's a lot of questions!  I can only say that, in the U.S., pre-med students rarely go to community college.  It might indeed look bad to the interviewing officer.  Go in prepared to explain why, with ample evidence of your ties to your home country, and... good luck!
