I have been homeschooled since the third grade. I have really liked it but I want to be around more kids my age and have a more organized enviroment to learn in. The problem is that I am entering in the 10th grade. Will it be hard for me to get into a private or public school from being homeschooled?

  1. Depends on where you live and the school in question. You'll have to start asking the schools now what sort of requirements they have.

  2. it will be hard.. but try to go to a small private school and dont let anyone take advantage of you.

  3. My daughter went to public high school for one year, after being homeschooled since 1st grade. Enrolling her was no problem at all, but it does depend on the school.

You will want to bring documentation - a piece of paper with all the classes, activities, enrichment classes you've taken, or file with some samples of your work, to show them or if they require it.

Guidance counselors are very helpful and you will speak with one. (Your parent can attend with you and verify your work, etc.) They will help you adjust and find the classes you need.

My daughter was able to skip some classes because she was ahead in some (most) areas.

Most private schools have entrance exams, so you will be placed according to your results. You can also show them your previous work, completed courses, and credits earned.

Private schools usually have higher standards, but that shouldn't be a problem if you have done well while homeschooling.

It will take some adjustment but finding some friends - the kind you can bring home to your family :), will help.

    Have fun!

  4. you'll be fine .... just take care of yourself of all the bad people that surround you .... dont trust anyone ! but have fun . it'll be fun cuz u'll meet so many people .. and have so many friends .. and cute guys! ;)

  5. I think you'll be able to get in as long as you can prove that you've been taking the necessary subjects.  I mean, people move all the time and have to transfer to a new school in the middle of their high school years, so this should be no different.  You might have a little bit of a tough time in your weaker subjects, but if you're basically a decent student, you should be fine :-)
