Question:

Going from homeschooled to high school?

I have been homeschooled my whole life, and I have usually fit in okay, but I'm nervous because I have never been to school before and I'm starting at a public high school next fall.

What do I need to know before I make that jump? Any stories, experiences, suggestions? I think I'll do fine academically, but sometimes I feel like I won't know how to act.

(By the way, its not like I'm an outcast or anything, I have friends, but not a lot)

  1. The adjustment will be strange but you will adjust. Know that in general, kids can be mean and fecitious.  You will make some good friends. Dont hide in a "shell, but also dont lay it all out there... if you know what I mean.

My son and daughter had to make the same transition and they did well.  My son had the hardest time because he trusted everybody.  He was well adjusted mid way through the first year.

    Good luck and have fun!!

  2. act yourself. whoever doesn't like you, they can go to h**l.   high school is TOOO easy- boring... just relax and have fun.

  3. Some people will admire you for being so smart and others will be jealous.  In other words things will be normal but there will be more kids to be normal with and that may be confusing.  I homeschooled my daughter right throuh high school.  She was just chosen Fairsest of the fair in our county.  It's not prom queen but it actually had real duties and she hasn't missed a thing.  Including the Queen bees you will run into in school.

  4. Don't tell anyone you were homeschooled.

  5. You will do fine. My son is in the same boat as you, he has been home schooled since fifth grade.  He is looking forward to going to the high school and meeting new friends closer to home.  He is looking forward to finding a girlfriend that lives closer to home and new friends he can go out with during the weekend.  Things are going to change for both of you and you get to pick now from a bigger world.  Don't forget who you are though, you have a somewhat different outlook on life than those schooled all those years at a public school.  Most likely better educated and more grown up.  Good luck and have some fun.  :)

  6. It's not like you are wearing a sign around your neck with "HOMESCHOOLED" in capital letters.  Relax.  I think the big thing is to get used to the changing of classes and all that goes on during that time.  Just be sure to be confident of who you are, and you'll do fine. (And, beleive it or not, high school doesn't last forever, and you will probably never see most of these people again after you graduate, so if you make mistakes, learn from them, but don't panic)

  7. id say just try to be accepting to everyone you meet.  most of the homeschooled kids that i met in middle school and high school seemed really sheltered and one of them told me that i was going to h**l.. so then i made him cry...... middle school was the best.. heh heh.. but anyways since your in high school, just try to make new friends, join a team or something, and dont hate on anyone

  8. its not going to be easy the first few days... but you'll start to make friends and fit in soon enough. for the way you act.... just  watch how the other students act for the first few days...but dont be a follower. its just like going to a new school.. you'll be fine....

  9. Haha, you'll be fine!  You'll probably be flocked with kids wanting to know a lot about you.  Theres not really any advice anyone can give because everyone has there own personal experiences that they can't really relate to anyone.  High school is just random your never going to know whats going to happen.  Every time we get a new student everyone always wants them to sit with them at lunch and wants them on there dodge ball team.  Haha, so thats why I think you'll be just fine.  Just be sure who you choose friends with.  Don't wanna get mixed up in the wrong group though.  Unfortunately there may be a couple of those at the high school.  But no biggie just ignore em and have fun!
