En light of the current standings of our planet does anyone feel that a course on a better earth or something should be required within schools?

  1. Yes.  My little sister (7th grade) is having her whole school (my old school) remodeled for a more green outtake.  They are using an underground heating system so that it doesn't take any energy to heat the room.  Also the whole school is solar-powered.  Then again, this is a private school in the elite Marin County (outside of San Francisco, CA) and many schools in the area are doing the same.  My guess is that in the next 10 or 20 years our taxes will go to remodeling public schools to be more green.  After all, it is our earth!

  2. It is an outrage how much the public schools are wasting.

Not only with electricity, but with paper, food, and other bulk materials.

In california, I know a few schools have solar panels, but I live in Bumf@ck Idaho, so that wouldn't happen anytime soon.

The lights, computers, printers, P.E. equipment, and other electronic devices are constantly running.

Teachers hand out paper, that thrown away at the end of the day.

We say we have a recycling program at my school, but we don't really. There aren't bins in every classroom and kids are unaware of the damage they really do.

We have no 'recycling' other than paper at my school. I have seen all of my teachers, and principals throw plastic and cans away. Yet they are an example for most at my school (by the way I am a Junior in H.S.).

I am currently trying to get a S.E.A.L.s club started, it stands for student equality achievement league, and i hope to incorporate environmental stuff into it. .

I also think that student council could play a role, but they choose not to.

  3. Definitely.  the schools are good at preaching recycling, so why can't they get safer products to clean the schools.  I'm bringing this up to our school board to see if we can make some changes.  I use Shaklee products in my home and on my school bus.  It works better and none of the kids have to worry about the smell.
