I am going to be driving to Florida from Boston by myself which is about a 20 hour drive straight. I don't really want to have to pay for a hotel just to sleep at for 8 hours.... Are you "allowed" to sleep at rest areas or will they kick me out?

  1. yes you can sleep at rest areas.  i have driven across the states numerous times and I always slept at truck stops and rest areas.  just make sure you park under a light. think safety all the time!!!!!

  2. I don't know what the laws are but I have driven from FL to ME and slept at the rest areas numerous times along I-95. No one ever bothered me although I planned the trip so I would be sleeping during the day because I felt I would be less likely to be mugged.

  3. You can pull over to rest/sleep. That's what rest areas are for. Highway patrol would much rather have people pull over for a few hours to nap than drive tired (which studies have shown is just as bad as driving tipsy - so don't do it).
