  1. You need to pick the part of the caribbean you will go to according to your interests. No part is better than the other. Western caribbean islands are more spread out than eastern and southern islands so you will probably spend more time at sea than in port. Since western ports are mostly on mainland or bigger islands there may be a wider variety of excursions to choose from. Belize and grand cayman have some of the best snorkeling spots in the world.  Grand cayman has an awsome 7 mile beach and you can swim with the stingrays! Belize also has a rainforest. Eastern islands are closer together and smaller than the western caribbean so you will have less time at sea and more time in port. The excursions here are mostly beach and water activities. Riding horses on the beach is cool! Southern islands tend to be more quiet and less populated. They are more relaxing. When picking which part of the caribbean to cruise to, look at all the different excursions and look at the different ships.

  2. Been on two Carnival 7 day cruises.  The western cruise 2006.... Key West, Belize, Costa Maya Mexico.  Eastern cruise Feb 2008... San Juan, Dominica, Barbados, St. Kitts, US Virgin Islands, and Laroma Dominican Republic.   Out of the two I enjoyed the eastern.   My group of 10 were on both cruises and all agreed the eastern was better.  The only place I'd stay away from is Laroma Dominican Republic..What a dump.....Dominica is by far the most beautiful island I have ever seen (filmed Pirates of the Caribbean there).

  3. Yes, I know they have eastern, southern & western. I would recommend a western cruise that includes stops in Mexico. I've booked plenty of trips there as a travel agent & all my clients loved it.

Mexico has some excellent indians ruins {Mayan Indians} that I'm sure the kids would love to see. They have these ruins all over the island of Cozumel which is right off the coast of Cancun & they have these ruins all over the Cancun area & cruise ships stop in both these areas. You can get a reservation on a tour bus from your cruise ship for this shore excursion. Bring a camera.

Also, if you like the water, the Cancun area has what they call cenotes in Mexico & they are some of the finest fresh water skin diving {snorkeling} in the world & a tour guide will skin dive with you & it's absolutely safe for children. The visibilty is over 100 feet underwater & there's fishlife. They were formed by underground streams & they have caves & the most beautiful rock formations. These cenotes look like small ponds at the surface.

Also, this area of Mexico has plenty fo shore excursions that include water sports like windsurfing, wave runners, & even horseback riding.

This area is also very cheap. You can get ten Mexican Pesos for every American dollar & they have excellent Mexican Restaurants all over the place. Have Fun!!!
