Question:

Going on a Cruise?

I have a question. I went on a cruise years ago and not only was it expensive to go on the cruise, but the booze was insanely expensive. I'm going on a cruise again in a few months with some friends and I wanted to bring my own booze rather than get raped on the price of the cruises booze. I've heard you are not allowed to bring liquor on board, but you can sneak it. Do they search your bags? Do they scan them? If they do, how do you sneak it on board? Thanks.

  1. We went on a cruise last year and put brown liq. in an apple juice bottle and white liq. in a white cran bottle and it worked. Another thing that would help is to go through customs ( passport/register) early online and carry your own bags to your room we also did that. And one more thing that happen to work when we came back on board from port they scanned our bags and asked if we had liq. I said yes and had two and only handed them one which was so great since we finished our apple  and white cran juice already~!~  ;) good luck hope you have a drunk time!!

  2. We snuck it mouth wash bottles.

  3. If you go with the "drink of the day", you'll pay about $5 which isn't bad considering I've paid up to $15 for a martini!

You can use the Listerine bottles, but there is clear Listerine so no reason to add food color.  Green vodka and orange juice - that would look interesting.  If you do go the food color route, consider bringing an opaque water bottle or metal travel mug - that way no one knows what color your drink is.

There are also bags on line that people swear by.  They're call Rum Runer bags (rumrunner.com I think)  and are supposed to be undectable to those scanning your luggage.

I just bought mini bottles, stuffed them in my sneaks, and no problem.  Scanners probably thought they were toiletry items.

I've also heard people who put some good liquor in the bottom of the suitcase, and something cheap on top.  So if they find it, you only hand over the cheap bottle, smile sheepishly and move on.  You may get summoned to the "naughty room" if they find something in your luggage, but you will not get kicked off.

  4. Well When I bought some booze in mexico and bought it back on board after scaning my bag an alarm went off that I had the booze. So I had to check it in and I got in the last night of my cruise. Its cheep to buy the liquor in port or on the ship in bottles and such but you cant have it during your trip, so if you want booze to take home buy it cheep and duty free in port or in the shops. You can get like 1.5leither of Absolute really cheep for example.

I know Royal Caribbean offers packages at dinner for alchoal.

So no you cant bring byob. Your luggage will be scaned, its more high tech then airports. if they see the booze, which they will it will be taken and you could get in to some trouble. Dont pack flim or cameras in your main luggage, put them in your carry on the xray machines will ruin the flim and camera..

Either set a limit of how much your willing to spend on booze, drink only a couple times a day on board and wait til in port bars to drink, they'll be cheaper or dont drink.  In Mexico I got two huge drinks for about 20 bucks. Since I have taken several cruises with the same company I get coupon books for all sorts of things, including a couple bogo drink coupons.

    Have fun!

  5. if you get caught they will probably kick you off the ship so you'd better be careful!

  6. I don't know who your cruising with, but I went on a cruise about 4 years ago and it was super cheap and the drinks were no more than they are in my small rural hometown.

I had some friends that recently went on a cruise.  They smuggled some liquor through customs by putting it in large shampoo bottles that had been put through the dishwasher.

  7. I have done these things and have always been able to get booze onboard.

    1. empty out some water bottles and replace with the booze, clear colored is best for this idea.

    2. pour your booze in emptied mouthwash bottles. Now this one is kinda tricky because a friend of mines had real mouthwash and they checked her bag. So be careful with this one

    3. I would just put the bottle in my checked luggage wrap it in some clothes (something you aren't too worried about in case of leakage) and wrap again in a plastic bag and pack in between the rest of clothes to secure it.

Be very careful with all of these if caught they will confiscate your booze.

  8. Booze on all the cruises I've traveled was always expensive, so I have learned to sneak.  The easiest way to sneak hard liquor is to fill an emty Listerine bottle with your choice of clear alcohol (such as vodka) and add food coloring.  You can also bring cases of bottled water on board, and I have carefully removed the center bottles from the case, emtied them and refilled them with vodka or rum, carefully replaced them in the case and the cruiselines are none the wiser.  The cruise lines don't search to closely, so just be subtle about it and you will be fine.

  9. I've gone on three seperate cruises on three seperate cruise lines and have brough alcohol on all of them. All I did was wrap the liquour bottle up in soft clothing in put them in our bags. I didn't sneak it in water bottles or listerene or anything. Just don't put them in your carry on as these get more thoroughly checked. Also, be careful to use only plastic bottles so that they don't break. There is always a chance that they may get taken away but with as expensive as liquor is on board I've always considered it worth the risk!
