So, I am from the United States and i am off to Europe in a few days. I am super excited but really scared. I am mostly concerned about theft. Now, i know that not every person is going to rob me, but i have heard SO many stories. Now i am looking to you for help. What do theives look for? What can i do to avoid having valuables stolen? What kind of pack should i wear (purse, back pack, over the shoulder bag...etc.) Please give me any tips/advice you have (not only on this, but everything)

Thank you all so much!

  1. I like an over the shoulder bag with a long strap you can wear across your whole body - with a strap made of something like leather, that's not easy to cut through. And when you are in a crowded area, or on a train, keep the bag section where you can see it.

As long as you are sensible there is no reason you can't enjoy your trip.

  2. Just use common sense like avoid solitary, dark streets and keep your valuables close to you and etc.

  3. my sister just came back from spain and went all over europe for 6 mounths. she said it was the best thing she ever did. so deffenetly go for it. but she did get a couple things robbed. her i pod and some jewlery got stollen when she was staying in a hotel. so when you go and travle for like the weekend only bring things that you wouldnt caer if you lost or just wear it on your person at all times. but when she was walking around like just every day stuff she did feel a pick pocket person trying to go into her school bag. but that only happend once so you should use small bags and with a zipper. oh and always make coppies of your passport and id. so that even if for some reasion it gets stollen then you still have some back ups. when you take a taxi you need to make sure its a real one and like agree on a rate or else they will rip you off and take you around in circles and yeah..... HAVE FUN!!!

  4. Don't you have thieves in the US. just do what you do at home and don't look too touristy

  5. First and foremost: your bag (meaning the one you will use when shopping, touring etc.). Do not bring a tote bag. Large purses like that (including designer bags etc.) are easy for someone to slip open and dig into without you even noticing because they're so huge. I suggest a handbag with a strap you can fit over your shoulder (use it as a shoulder bag) if you see someone who's shifty looking. Carry it with the outside facing outwards, and keep things in the pocket on the back, just the little things like lip gloss, gum, etc.  Most have hidden or zippered pockets inside. This is where you keep your wallet, cell phone, or pager. Then there should be a few more pockets without zippers. In there goes you iPod (with headphone attatched to you. If you can't wear them, iPod goes into the zippered pocket.). Throw garbage or little peices of c**p or whatever in the main part of the purse, so if a theif does try to reach in, a candy wrapper or whatever will crinkle and you'll know. Theives will look for valuables, so an expensive lipstick (like chanel) isn't one to bring, because a theif may take it to sell. There goes thirty bucks, right? E-mail me if you want a packing list or anything like that. Good luck!
