Aug or Jan better? For four adults would a big suite be good or should we go with 2 separate cabins? Other than price which one of these options would be my best bet? Thanks?

  1. Depends upon where you would like to go. The Carrabean in winter is very nice, hurricane season in August so I would avoid there at that time. Alaska or Europe would be better then. As for a cabin, it would depend on your budget and how well you get along with the other couple. You could probably find adjoining cabins on most cruise lines if you book well enough in advance.

  2. the cruise lines go to alaska and europe in aug and go to south america and hawaii and caribbean in jan.  It depends on where you want to go.

    Two cabins would be better.

  3. I strongly prefer January.    Aug is Hurricane season and the weather might be worse everywhere.   Assuming you are going to the Caribbean.

Most of my Caribbean cruises, I have gone in January and loved it.  Also because I live in Canada and it is nice to get out of the cold for a while.

The suites would depend on how well everyone gets along I guess.  There should be plenty of room.  So it is a question of privacy.

  4. August is better for the caribbean but not for alaska. Jan is season time so more money.

2 seperate cabins would be better, of course not knowing the relation between you 4! Sorry. But if the cabin is cheaper for 4-in-1 then yes.

As it is, most of the time you'll be  on the ship either eating, entertaining , shopping, gambling, drinking or other activities. And almost the whole day is spent on port.

  5. I would  go in August.  Of course it really depends on where you are going.  I would go for separate suites, that way you have your own privacy.  Have a nice trip.

  6. August cruises will be full of kids because of summer vacation.  Also prices will be higher in August than in January (in January fewer people can go, so cruise lines offer discounts to fill the ships).

However, there are some places you can only go during the summer: Alaska, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe.

As for the suite vs. 2 cabins question, keep in mind that a suite on a cruise ship is generally just one extra-large room, not separate rooms like in a hotel.  So two people would be sleeping on a fold-out couch and there wouldn't be a lot of privacy.  On some ships there are suites with separate rooms and even separate bedrooms, but those will definitely be more expensive than just getting two cabins (because they usually have a living room and other expensive space too).

Personally I'd go for two balcony cabins next to one another, or if one couple is more concerned about price then one balcony and one inside cabin across the hallway.
