Question:

Going on a road trip...?

I have been doing very well watching what I eat lately. We will be going on a road trip, which takes about 18 hrs, so a few pit stops will be planned. I was just hoping that someone can let me know what items off of fast food menus are lowest in calories so I don't totally derail my diet.

Thanks in advance if you can help me!

  1. So many fast food places offer fruit as an alternative but just get the kids meal options (smaller portions) and exchange the fries for the apple slices or whatever.

Also, if you do get a sandwich just take off the top of the bun or switch the bottom to put on the top ~ flip over and hold like a cookie or cd disk Hope that make sense

Also, get water instead of soda but if you get sick of water either get an ice tea or a clear colored soda unless you need a pick me up then get diet

Salads are a good option but get grilled chicken and light on the dressing ~ go w/ a light or vinaigrette

    Have fun

  2. well there is taco bell because now they have a new fresco menu so it is healthy for you.

  3. Suggestions for in the car:  Have lots of water with you and some healthy snacks... carrot sticks, grapes, apples, bananas, rice cakes, etc.

That way, you're getting the necessary nutrients and keeping up that with you nourishments that way.  Then, when you stop at a fast food establishment... you can order a salad (be careful of the dressings though), or get a simple sandwich.  Remember that barbecue sauce (or ketchup) are much better for you than cheese, mayo, or ranch dressing.  Don't be afraid to substitute.

Each fast food establishment should have a nutrition brochure that you can either take with you, or they have a binder that you may request to see with the nutritional info in it.

Subway uses fresh ingredients and now can make a salad out of any sub (to eliminate the bread), or you can make it a wrap.

    Enjoy your road trip!

  4. If you really want to eat well and cheaply, you can avoid fast food altogether.  When I go on a road trip I take things like nuts, beef jerky, and fresh and dried fruits.  When I get hungry, a few handfuls while driving will do it.  A couple of bottle of water, and I never have to even stop except for gas & bathroom.

  5. try getting a salad insted of a burger, grilled instead of fried, etc. etc.

  6. yeah, save yourself the temptation and bring as much as possible with you. Then pull over at a rest area and eat outside. I hate going in someplace that has tons of stuff that I would love to eat and then have to order a salad and a bottle of water. I get depressed! You will save $$ too.

  7. When I go on a road trip, I don't eat the entire time. We just went on a 13 hour road trip and I didn't eat until near the end when my stomach was doing weird things and I had a happy meal. But generally, you probably won't eat at all. I would go into gas stations, look around, but would always come back empty handed. My family who was with me on the road trip, they got a lot of fast food, but even the smell of Arby's and KFC didn't make me want to eat. So I'm guessing if you want to indulge in a yummy fast food meal, go for it, because you probably won't eat that much anyway.

  8. You should bring your own food. That way you know what went in to it and it would save you some money to buy stuff.

  9. subway

  10. anything with grilled chicken!

however, if you get it on a sandwich, hold the mayo and use mustard instead.

if you get it on a salad, hold the extra ranch and use fat free or balsamic dressing instead.
