  1. If you want a thinner coat that's still warm, you might have to shell out some good money; the H&M coats for $80 aren't going to keep you warm unless it's unseasonably warm that year.  NYC gets really cold in the winter, so NorthFace fleeces aren't going to cut it, usually.  Here's a coat I like:

Hats are always a good bet.  The mittens that open up into fingerless gloves are great since you can hold a cup of coffee in them.

Get a bunch of things to layer with: a few camisoles and tanks, a few t-shirts, a few long sleeved tees and some long sleeved oxford shirts, plus hoodies, cardigans, and sweaters.  Sweaters can be found at J Crew or other fine retailers; they typically make them out of good wool that's lightweight yet warm.

As for boots, don't buy Uggs or anything that's likely to get wet, and anything that has a heel.  NYC winters are slushy and rainy and gross.

  2. Lucky!!

I went to NYC during fall, so I'll try to help you out as best as I can.

Thermals are very important.. I can't stress this enough.

Long-sleeved and short-sleeved tees, especially lng sleeved. However, the heaters are usually on in buildings, so a short-sleeved tee is good if you get too hot inside.

Scarves! Right now Target has some really cute ones, haha. They're great for keeping you warm and are chic, too.

Get some good boots, maybe twopairs. UGGS are not good for NYC. It's wet and cold, and nothing sucks more than wet UGGS. Faux-fur lined boots are nice and toasty, and if the outside is leather or someting, it's even better.

Dark-wash jeans, espcially skinny and wide-leg. Comfy, stylish, warm. Sweatpants for around the house.

Fuzzy socks! You know the kind. Wonderful for keeping you warm.

A hat. Doesn't have to be a grandma hat, but something to keep you warm!

Gloves, of course. Fancy and casual.

Cable knit sweaters are a God-send. Warm, comfy, stylish.

Cardigans. From Grandpa to chic, you can'tgo wrong. Comfy, warm, soft, stylish... need I go on?

Pencil skirs if you're going out on the town, black slacks, ankle boots (with heels, of course), and billowy, romantic long-sleeved blouses.

Do you know anyone in New York? If so, cal them for advice.

Good luck and HAVE FUN you lucky duck!

  3. Heyy early welcome to NY!

    about the greatest place ever!

well it does get freezing cold during the winter

and i hate big puffy jackets too.

a company in the USA is called the north face and they make amazing fleezces and such! they keep you so warm!

scarfs are in the year too, so make sure you get some cute ones.

uggs? idk if you dont mine getting them wet, cause my feet are always cold during out winters!

fuzzy sweatshirts with hoods? that helps?

lots of layers and thermals! those keep you super warm!

  4. Pack me!!! Lol, sorry.

Yeah it's cold cold cold. If you don't wana go in for the big things then lots of thinner layers, tights for under trousers on really bad days, good cosy boots, lots of socks. Remember clothes are much cheaper over there, I know you'll be a student but uf you can get extra cash together until you leave then you'l be able to pick up some great bargains.

Oh yeah, get a really cute hat, scarf and gloves

  5. If you aren't into coats and jackets, I suggest thin knit cardigans, layered over long sleeve tees.  They will keep you warm, and you will feel comfortable.  Other than that, wear typical winter wear; darker colors, layers, scarves, gloves, hats, etc.

  6. Hey! I'm from Canada so I have pretty much the same climate! :)

    Bring Thermals. Honestly, So cute!

Bring a nice hoodie with a puffy vest if you don't like jackets!

I usually just wear two hoodies and I'm good.

Bring some skinny jeans if they're your style. You can tuck them into really cute tall boots like Uggs or something.

Bring wooly socks. Not gunna lie, but they are adorable with skinny jeans or even sweat pants.

Bring sweat pants to sleep in. And a thin long sleeve will be fine.

I CANNOT STRESS THESE THREE ENOUGH. BRING A CUTE WOOL SCARF, MITTENS AND A REALLY CUTE HAT.

    You will love them.

If you want a nice jacket, the pea coats at american eagle are cute and warm. Plus they go with the hat.mitts/scarf :)

Def bring extra socks and pants. The bottoms will suck if they get wet.

DONT FORGET TO SPRAY YOUR BOOTS!! Dont want the slush to leak through!

Just lots of long sleeves and hoodies and cute cardigans will keep you warm.

Bring tanks and camis too. They double as GREAT CUTE undershirts!

Have a blast and bring MONEY!

    Shopping is GREAT!

  7. Good boots and a hat, for starters.

Then take a look at what the locals wear.

I have been to Michigan state in the winter time, and YES, it sure does get very cold.

You will be looking at temperatures from around minus 10c to minus 25c for prolonged periods.

Just remember, the cold will kill you, so wrap up warm.

  8. Simply ,

    Northface jacket.

    Skinny jeans.

    Ugg boots

*or some cute nikes or flats.
