  1. i agree with Dan.  who are you planning to call anyway?

you're on vacation.  anybody important should be with you, right?  keep it off, and if you really need to call home, do so when you're in port (depends what port -- if it's in your plan, you're golden)

  2. Natasha, leave your cell phone off while you are on the cruise, unless you have a lot of money to waste or satellite service. Why would you want to talk to someone somewhere else anyway. Just pay attention to what is going on where you are. The idea of a cruise is to get away and go somewhere else, right?

    Regards,

    Dan

  3. Yes, I agree with the top two...why call home?

On the other hand to answer your question, my dad called me from St. Thomas through Verizon and it was clear as a bell.

    I'm in the U.S.A.

  4. mine did not work. why would you want to use a phone on such a cruise anyway? when it does work its expensive to call/sms

  5. It will work when your at sea but not in port.  Plus it will cost you a wicked lot of money to make calls.  I got back from my cruise this past March and got a $151 phone bill from Verizon.  I only made about 7 calls the whole 2 weeks and they each lasted about 5min.

  6. It might work, but its crazy expensive.!

  7. You will be paying up the wazoo for roaming charges plus the minutes.

Actually, while you are docked at San Juan and the US Virgin Islands, the minutes and roaming charges should be included in your monthly minutes without any more fees.  These are both considered part of the US - for the cell phone.

At sea and on the other islands, it is going to cost plenty.  Check with your cell phone provider for the rates.

  8. YOU CELL PHONE ONLY WORK ON U.S.A. ISLANDS. UNLESS YOU HAVE A INTERNATIONAL CELL PHONE. IF NOT LEAVE IT ROAMING IT TO EXPENSIVE.

  9. I have cingular too and it will work. I would suggest not using it onboard though because it is very expensive. They charge $2.49 per minute onboard the ship. If you plan to use it then use it in the ports because its cheaper. Cingular doesn't charge roaming rates in the US territories so San Juan would be a good place to use it because you won't encounter any extra fees. Also remember to turn your phone off when not in use at sea or in port because they charge roaming rates for every call or voicemail you receive, even if you don't answer the phone.
