  1. Hello,

Yes it is possible and easy to do.  You don't say which day you will be in Rome but unless it is a Sunday, it really doesn't matter.

You can see the colosseum in the morning.  Try to get there before 10 am.  You can easily spend an hour or 2 walking around and inside the colosseum.  Enjoy the morning there and then head over to the vatican. If you get there earlier you might have time to see the forum which is included as part of the combo ticket to the colosseum.

You don't say which part of the vatican you want to see but I will assume you mean the museums AND the basilica.   Head over to the vatican museums some time after noon.  The lines are very short after lunch as everyone likes to go in the morning.  If you get there around 12:30  or 1 or later you will have no problems.  For the most part the vatican museums close at 6pm.   They are not opened on Sunday except for the last one of the month when they are incredibly crowded.   From the colosseum you can take the metro back to the termini station and then switch to the other line and head to the vatican stop.  Spend a few hours touring the museum and then exit to the basilica.  You can spend as much time in the basilica as you wish.  If you wish to arrange a tour through the museums you can visit vatican.va to arrange it.  These tours are very good, cheap and last about 2 hours.  You can request an afternoon tour but tell them you will take anything that is available since you only have one day in Rome.  If you get a morning tour you can see the colosseum in the afternoon.  A tour arranged by the vatican allows you to skip the lines and saves a lot of time.

Have fun and good luck,  Donna

  2. Yes, it is possible. You should start out very early in the morning. In some cases, you can buy a ticket for an appointment so that you can bypass the line when your time comes, but they don not always have that option. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend doing that, to truly appreciate either place, you would need a day- each.

  3. I was in Rome a few weeks ago...We arrived late afternoon and had time to see the colosseum in that evening...(entrance is only like €11, so it's not a waste if you don't spend all day there). The next day, we took a morning tour of the vatican for about three hours, and we were back to the hotel by lunch. You could absolutely switch those around and fit them into one day, see the most important points of each, and have plenty of time to continue exploring. A short taxi ride can take you over to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, which you could probably fit in after the colosseum tour as well!

  4. yes it is...but start out early...

you can visit the colosseum which only take about maybe an hour or so...actually not that much to see there....

then take the subway to vatican city....while there visit st. peter's basillica....you will want to spend most of your day there..

  5. If you can get to the Vatican early, you can miss the line which, at some days, is probably the longest queue in the world. Last time I went, I had a guide that was able to take us past the line (something like the attached link). This will save you a lot of time in a packed day.

The tour for the attached link also goes to the Appian Way so if they are accommodating to let you out at the Coliseum, you're in luck. Otherwise, take the LineA metro from Cipro Musei Vaticani to Termini, then LineB to Coliseo. The Coliseum closes as early as 4:30 in the winter so check the attached link for hours.

  6. Yes, but several days are needed to see the most important sites, wife just spent 5 days in Rome, last week.

  7. Yes all walking distance, you can see most of the big attraction of Rome in one day by foot and metro its a very great city.

  8. sure!!!it is possible, but you have to wake up earlu in the morning..you can go first to visit colosseum and then you can go to vatican by the metro..;)

  9. well, can I give you an advice? I'm italian, and I've been to Rome many times and... yes, it's possible, but it becomes (is it right?) easier (my english is very bad.. I'm sorry) if you take a red tourist bus at STAZIONE TERMINI, with a ticket valid 24 h that stop near the principal monuments of Rome... you're very lucky to see one of the most beautiful places in the world!enjoy yourself!
