i have the new card that replaces the E111 form, do i still need travel insurance? and what is the best or cheapest?

  1. You need travel insurance. The EHIC card only covers medical treatment in the country it does not cover return home costs, nor liability, baggage, legal expenses, personal accident benefits, cancellation, curtailment, loss of passport or any other section a normal travel insurance policy contains.

    Am pleased you differentiate between 'best' and 'cheapest'. If it still operates double-excess is the cheapest policy but you have to pay an awful lot towards any claim. The best policy I know is the BIBA policy through Tokio MArine - you can get quotes at http://www.portwood.co.uk/


  2. Still worth getting travel insurance. Check out the AA at www.theaa.com as they're about the cheapest around.
