we are going on holiday for one week, this is the 1st since we got our cat (who is coming 2 in december. I have a good friend who loves Tinkerbell but has her own cats so can't take her to her house but says she will come round each day and feed her and spend time with her; or should I look into a cattery? are they normally dear? I just want the best for Tinkerbell as we love her dearly, would she be ok if she was fed each day with company or in a cattery?

  1. Cats are much better off at home as long someone will be checking in on her during the day.  It will be much better on Tinkerbell with your friend, who she knows, coming in to feed her, clean her litter pan and just play with her.  You might also wnat to leave the radio or T.V. on in one room so she won't feel lonely and since it is only for 1 week, she will be fine.

  2. Scratch proof your furniture and have a friend come over and feed her and play with her for a while.

  3. If your friend is willing to come and look after her then let her do it as she will be better off in her own surroundings and comfort zone than being put in a cattery where she will probably be a bit scared as it will be alien to her. Best thing at home if possible for her.

  4. when i go on holiday my neighbour pops in about 3 times a day to feed my cat an spends some time with her, she also opens closes my curtains an puts lights on or off . neigbours are ideal as they are on hand if there was a emergancy

  5. I think that your friend coming to visit and feed her every day is fine.  I think a cat would prefer this to being in a strange cattery.  im going away for 5 weeks soon and have the same arrangement with my friend.  I feel this is better than a cattery as my cats have never left home and are timid.  Catteries are good though and not too expensive, about $12 a day here in NZ. 1 week wont upset your cat very much to be home alone.

  6. Care.com

has people who can take care of your cat...they have free background check on the pet taker. Don't leave tinkerbell alone

  7. its a big responsibility and sometimes a burden to ask family and friends to look after your pet while you are on holiday, and their is no guarantee your friend will go every day or sit for hours with your cat when they may have another prior engagement,.what if one day they cant be bothered to go and check on the cat,its bad enough that you are going on holiday and the cat will miss you and pine for you,but when a cat is used to someone being around 24/7.your friend isn't going to be able to do this,so if i was you i would put her in the cattery for the week,at least they are checked on and fed at the time you specify to them.and if the cat is ill they do have vets come out to them,or someone at the cattery will have the knowledge

  8. If your friend can come by once a day, then you're fine!

If you have rooms in your house that you don't want the cat getting into, then just shut the doors. Keeping a cat in one accident-proofed room is better than keeping them cooped up in a cattery.

Just make sure that your friend knows where the food and treats are and that you have left enough to last the whole time you're away. Also, don't forget to leave a small thank-you gift for your friend!

  9. Are you on acid? you cant figure out on your own how to take care of your own cat while your away?

  10. Its usually less stressful for them to be left at home as long as someone is coming to give food and water. A little attention is good too:)

I think its better if you leave her home and have your friend stop by to take care of her.

  11. If your friend comes over every day and interacts with your cat she will be fine.Going to the cattery is generally traumatic for a cat. There are strange sounds and smells and everything is unfamiliar. She will be better off in her own bed,and home with someone she knows visiting.Expect for her to ignore you upon your return she will be angry with you for leaving her and she will try to punish you.She will come around when she thinks you have learned your lesson! Go on Holiday and enjoy yourself.Your furry friend will be fine.

  12. As long as your friend lives near by & you trust her to check on your baby daily - this is perfectly acceptable.

Leaving her in a cattery or boarding facility is nice, but can *sometimes* expose an animal to strange germs. Just like sending a child off to pre-school.

Choose what you feel is safest. There are some very nice boarding facilities.

  13. I don't know why other people are being so rude, but i would suggest leaving your cat at home and having your friend come by and feed her and give her some company. Cats don't need as much attention as dogs. It will be less stressful for the cat to just stay home. Just be sure your friend is reliable.

  14. Get a friend to come in and feed her & give her a cuddle. Be prepared for the "sulk treatment" upon your return though!

  15. It's the best to leave cat at her house and let friend to come and take care of her.Cats are very attached to their living space, so your cat will be very scared, if you move her to other place. We left our cats for one week too, first part of week my sister visited them, then she had to leave, and she just left enough food and water. They were alone a couple of days and nothing bad has happened to them.

  16. I dont think the cat could survive alone unless you left it with a neighbour but it would always come back to your house expecting food etc
