Ask you cellular carrier to send you a phone to use in Europe.  Most major companies can do this for you.  Find out the charges up front.  You can also inquire about phones with hotels and travel agencies.

Hi  yes you can but go to the local store and get one made for Europe and I really recommend that you get one over there.... it will be cheaper..... buy the minutes......turn in before you leave or mail back......

If all you're doing is calling the US with it, use phone stores that have a number of phone booths in them.

They're cheaper and a lot less hassle for a short vacation.  They're all over big cities.
