Question:

Going out of town for two nights, do I need a guinea pig sitter?

My family is going away from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening in a few weeks. I am sure I could provide my pigs (2) with enough pellets, hay and water to last for two days, but might I need to have someone stay with them, so they don't get lonely and to provide their daily veggies.(they would only miss those on saturday.) ? Thanks in advance!

  1. See if you can get someone to come over to check on them for you.

Before you leave, put in extra water bottles. For the pellets, don't just fill up one bowl. Put in a few extra bowls. Put in tons of hay. Also give them plenty of fresh veggies, wet.

Have someone come over on Saturday just to check to make sure everything is still full and to give them more veggies. It will make it easier for them if you prepare the veggies ahead of time and put them in a plastic back in the refigerator. That way they just have to grab it. I would also have them come on Sunday and give veggies as well. You never know...you could be delayed. Better they have them just in case.

Leave your pet sitter s list of things to look for...running eyes, poor breathing, etc...and give them the link to GuineaLynx in case there is a problem and they need to aske questions.

  2. yes

  3. You don't necessarily need anyone to stay with them, but you should at least have someone check on them each day.  That person can give them their veggies and check to make sure that they have enough food, water, and hay.  Also, if one of them were to get sick or injured while you are gone they could be taken to the vet faster this way.

  4. If it were just for one day, I'd say they'll be fine with extra food & water. However, two days is stretching it. I'd find a trusted friend, neighbor, or relative that would be willing to check on them on Saturday.

If that isn't possible, find a local pet sitting service in your area. They will come check on and feed the piggies for (usually) a reasonable fee, say $15.

  5. Why dont you have one of your friends come over and feed your guinea pigs? they could play with them and feed them.

But missing one day is not too bad!!

  6. Ask a friend to watch over them while your gone.

That works better than taking any chances.

  7. Definatly have some one watch them

  8. Yes you need some one to watch them because they eat constantly. Someone has to be around to feed and give water. You could just ask a trusted friend. Its not a hard job.
