Going out with friends?

My friend has invited me to come along with her and a few other people to the cinema, but there is a possibility that i will be coming home late, like around 9 or 10pm. My parents are very strict, they don't usually let me go out all the time. The problem is that i havent told them that i might be coming home late, i have the feeling that they will say no when i do tell them.

Im 15 btw

How do i tell them? and if they do say no, how can i persuade them to let me go?

  1. First of all, be nice to them. Just to soften them up. :) Maybe you can make tea or something... then:

"Mum, Dad, is it ok if I go to the cinema with my friends?"

"Which cinema? What are you watching? When?"

*supply them with the details, but not the time*

"I can get there by myself. I know the way."

    "Alright then, you can go."

*walk away, but then turn back as if you've just remembered something.*

"Oh by the way, I might be getting back quite late in the evening."

    "How late?"

    "9-10ish...?"

*then you must convince them using the following arguments:"

    - I know the way to and back pretty well, and it's not far away.

    - One of my friends will take me. (ask them to - the more, the better.) There's safety in numbers. (In fact, get the whole group to walk you home if you can)

    - I know the area pretty well.

    - I'm responsible, I won't talk to strangers... etc.

    - I have a mobile; we can contact each other whenever we want to.

    - You can pick me up from the cinema if you want? (use as a last resort)

***please make sure the above arguments are actually true!!***

That should work. And if they don't let you... then I'm sure they know what's best. You can always leave it a couple of days and then casually bring it up again.

Try not to get angry, sulky, or raise your voice. Instead, talk earnestly and reasonably, like you're having a very calm debate over what you want for dinner.

Hope this helped - good luck!

PS - Try reverse physiology. "Ok then, I understand. I'll tell them I can't come..." Don't rely on it though.

  2. Just say I might be coming home a bit late but I'm with a group please let me go.
