Question:

Going past my due date?

Okay I am 38w2d preg. I am due Sept 7th, my boyfriend said that he thinks I will go into labor on sept 17th, he had a dream about it, silly I know. I think it would be cool to have the baby on the day that he picked. I realize that the odds of this happening are very very low, but I am just wondering do you think that my dr would let me go 10 days past due or would he induce before then? This is my first pregnancy so I have heard that it is more likely to go past my due date. Also, my dr keeps saying that my baby will be fairly big, will this have and impact on how far past due I would be allowed to go? Like I said I know that the odds of this are very low, but I am just curious. Thanks!

  1. I don't have any children myself... but I was 10 days late, my brother was 14 days late, my sister was 11 days late, and my other sister was 7 days late.  my brother was 14 and came out 10 lbs and mom was fine... i guess it's between you and your doctor and your baby.

  2. If you do go late, I doubt your doctor would let you stay pregnant and extra 10 days.  They do let women go late, but they usually induce before a week or so.  Plus, I wouldn't want to go 10 days late, personally! :)  Good luck!

  3. They don't let you go past 42 weeks.  Rarely do they even let you go that long.  I would say that if your baby was doing fine and you were doing fine that you might be able to talk a Dr into waiting the 10 extra days but it is very risky because the baby can become to large and become stressed out and waiting that long increases the chances of complications and a c-section

  4. i was induced with all three of my children with the heaviest being 9lbs 1 oz... they were all induced at what was thought to be 42 weeks however with my first there was some issues in determining due date as i did not keep up with the prenatal care as i should have..(i was young and hiding the pregnancy) my doctor estimated date of conception later then i believed it to have taken place however find an obstetrician that will trust a 17 year old prego...when i was induced there were enormous complications as it seemed i had been carrying longer then they thought....

the placenta begins to deteriorate past a certain point and the baby may begin to pass stool inutero...generally they will induce earlier then later when you pass your due date in order to ensure the safety of your baby..

  5. First of all, congrats on the baby!!:)  My due date is also Sept 7th, and I have said all along I think I will go over and picked the 18th as my guess.  My doctor said they will let me go two weeks over before being induced.  Every doctor is different, so I would just talk to your doctor about it at your next appointment.  My doctor did say once I am past my due date they will consider the size of the baby, so I'm guessing if you have a really big baby, they will induce sooner.  Good luck and best wishes for your upcoming birth!!:)

  6. My doc waited 7 days after my due date to induce, but every doc is different because everyone has different circumstances.

  7. Every Dr is different but if your Dr is already saying your baby is big then he probably will not let you go ten more days for the fact it would get more difficult the bigger the baby is.
