Going snowboarding in january?

Question

any good areas for skiing/snowboarding out west? with cheap hotel rates?

my family has gone to park city, utah; stowe mountain, vermont; and breckenridge, colorado.

Think about the Lake Tahoe area - there are over 20 resorts (Squaw Valley, Northstar, Sugarbowl, Alpine Meadows, Heavenly, etc) within driving distance and the rooms are cheaper in Reno - which is a close drive to most resorts.

Stay away from Lake Tahoe if you don't like crowds. Try going to Utah again. There are ten resorts within an hour of the Salt Lake City airport (SLC). I go to Snowbasin, UT every year but there are is no hotel or town at the base. The nearest town is Ogden which is about 15 minutes away. I think it is worth is though. The place is a 5 star resort with marble and granite counter tops everywhere, even in the bathroom. There are also no crowds, even on the holidays. Go to snowbasin.com to check it out.
