I'm leaving for Guam on September 1st. I'm staying til October 12th. I have a Canadian passport (I am Canadian) and I live in Nj. (I have my green card) When going through customs in Guam, what will they do? Will they go through my bags? I know they'll check my green card and Passport, but should I be worried because I'm staying such a long time? Please let me know!

  1. Guam's airport Customs is just like any other U.S. airport. Depending on what you claim on your customs form and whatever info they see when they swipe your passport or enter your SSN. They also ask a few questions and I guess they decide from there if they will open up your bags. I would say it's random sometimes and common sense all other times (i.e. if you have a criminal record that DOES show up on their screen or frequent travel to the same country/region and lots of baggage when you return).

Oh, one more thing...Chamorros (people from Guam) are the least descriminative people. Being Asian and Pacific Islanders and U.S. Citizens altogether, people from Guam display a great appreciation for all nationalities/races. I think the earlier answer was unfair simply because the selection may have been random.

  2. it all depends. sorry for that nomad guy. but airports are just like other airports in the world. guam's aiport is smaller compared to others of course

  3. I live in Guam and travel back and forth to the States several times a year.  The only problem I have going through Guam customs, is the people.  The custom guys are locals, so if they are in their lazy mood (almost a guarantee), then expect to take at least 20-30 minutes to get through the line.  They won't go through your luggage, unless you are declaring something.  Best advice, after you get your luggage examine the custom inspectors and try and choose one that looks less lazy then the others.  Good luck.

  4. I had a very bad experience going through Guam Customs once. Be prepared for anything. I came in on a empty flight from Hawaii. The only other people were a stewardess, her husband and child. We talked on the plane they said they fly to Hawaii about twice a month. Any how it was just us waiting to clear customs an agent came out with a drug dog. The dog went to the little girl quickly and bumped her stuffed animal with it's nose and sat down. The local Chammorro agent told the family sorry and that they could go. They were Chammorro also (locals) Then he turned to me and told me to follow him with my suitcase. I was then body searched. My suit case was dumped out. To make a long story short I was detained for Thirty minutes while that couple was able to get away. The guy took my Guam Drivers license and made a photo copy. I think so that if I told anyone they could give my name to the bad guys?

    Regards,
