Question:

Going through police backgrounds?

I'm in backgrounds for a police department in CA. I wonder what BI's opinions are. I have no criminal record, no driving tickets, no drugs, not an alcoholic. However, I had to quit a job without notice because a girl I worked with were dating and she turned crazy, making threats towards me and my family she even showed up at my house one time. We worked in different buildings when we started dating but one building closed we ended up in the same building. How bad does that hurt me if any? and what if he makes contact with her and she lies to him about me?

  1. As the other answerer stated.  Tell the truth and be completely forthright about it.  If this is the only occasion of job abandonment and you have an otherwise steady work history, it shouldn't be too much a problem.  Otherwise, even if the investigator does make contact with her, which is unlikely, her story will be questioned as well.

    Good luck!

  2. I will preface this with, I have been doing Police Background Investigations for many years in California. If you told the entire story here, this should not be a problem. Be honest about the situation with the person doing your BG. Don't worry about her lying, we find this with ex-wives and husbands, girlfriends etc. and know how to sort the truth.

If you have not been totally honest during a BG, forget it. More people get washed out for trying to hide something stupid than you can imagine.

ALWAYS remember this. As a police officer the one thing you can be fired for (except of course committing a crime) is lying.

The President of the United States can lie to a Grand Jury about being with an intern and keep his job. You will be fired if you lie about anything. Hang in there, you should be fine.
