Going to AUSTRALIA for a year! Wondering how much money would i need to get me by before i find a job????

Well, hostel per day will be up to $30 + food per day at say, up to $40 + booze ??? per day  mmm well , you're Irish aren't you, so that might be a bit more (lol).

Our immigration people are going to insist on your having a couple of thousand $$$ plus your return ticket (or enough to buy one) and that will be more than enough.

It won't take you long to find casual work, particularly if you're not fussy about what you do and I've never yet met an Irishman who couldn't talk himself past any door!

Also depends on what sort of work you do, as to how quick you get a job.

My Granddaughter went to Thailand,Australia ,New Zealand and America for a year she had about a thousand pound but apart from Thailand and America she had to work, she found work quite easily in Australia so if you are going straight there maybe you would only need half, she did say that even with money and working they had to be very careful what they spent money on, so I suppose the answer is as much as possible but not in cash get a bank account with an easy access card.  Have a great time, my granddaughter did.

Yes in answer to the other person answering I think you will need a work permit and you should be able to get one, apply at Australian Embassy.

no one will employ you coz you havent got a work permit... so apply for one NOW... and you probably wont get one, (coz your NOT emigrating)

you can and will find work, but itll be cash in the hand ripoff rates...

To legally work in Australia you need a working visa.
