I am going to take a Cruise that will start and end in Barcelona Spain. At the end of this cruise I am going to spend an extra day in Barcelona. My questions are as follows:

1) How far is the Port where the crusie lines dock from the City Center? and

2) How far is the Port from the main International Barcelona airport?

  1. I have cruised out of Barcelona twice, the last time was this past November.  The airport is about a 30 to 40 minute taxi ride from the cruise port, depending upon how much traffic there is.  There is a bridge from downtown to get to the cruise port and sometimes traffic is congested when you get near that bridge.  On our last trip the traffic was very congested when we left the ship about 8:30 AM and it took a while to get onto the freeway.  But once we got on the freeway it was a pretty quick trip.

The cruise port is right next to downtown but there is a waterway and a bridge that separates the port from the city.  So you cannot easily just walk off the ship into town and to a hotel.  You would have a hard time rolling bags up the high bridge and the route would walk you about a mile or so.  Plan to take a taxi; there will be plenty of them there.

When we did our cruises both times we went a day early so that we could adjust to the time difference, rest from the long flight, and have time to sightsee.  We stayed both times downtown near the Diagonal Mall, the last time in a nice hotel called the Barcelona Princess:  http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-6033878-...

  2. You can take the subway into the city center in a matter of, probably 10 to 15 minutes.

Can't tell you how far to the airport.
