  1. Hello - Ni hao. (also how are you)

    Good bye - zai jian (the z is a little heavier than in English)

    Thank you - xie xie (x is like sh)

    How much - duo shao

    Do you speak English? - ni shuo yin wen ma?

  2. 吃了嗎?

    chi le ma?

  3. No point in trying. Each word has 4 different tones and therefore meanings. Best to say hello. They wll understand that.

  4. Hello = ni hao

    Nice to meet you hen gao xin ren s**+ ni

    How are you = ni hao ma?

    Where are you from? ni lai zi na li

    I live in the US wo zhu zai Mei guo

    Where do you live? ni zhu zai na li a

    What city do you live in? ni zai na ge cheng s**+?

    Do you know Chinese? = ni h*i shuo zhongwen ma?

    Do you speak English? ni h*i shuo ying yu ma?

    I can’t read Chinese wo hai you hen duo de dong xi yao xue

    How do I say… wo zen men shuo

    thank you = xie xie =谢谢

    sorry dui bu qi

    never mind (doesn’t matter) mei guan xi

    of course dang ran la

    you’re welcome = bu ke qi

  5. ni hao=hello

    zai jian=goodbye

    bu yao xie xie=no want, thanks

    ni hao ma=hello, how are you?

    qing=please

    ni ne=and you?

    wo=yourself

    ni=person you are talking to

    ta=them

    so if you said ni hao ma (how are you) to someone, they might respond wo hen hao ni ne (I am very good, and you?)

    normally, whenever you use "ma" at the end of a sentence, it is asking a question.

    The most useful one of all:  Wo ting bu dong!! I hear, but do not understand!
