Going to Belfast or Dublin from Liverpool?

Question

Hi I need to go to Ireland with my car and four adults, after years of flying over, it seems the four hour sea cat from liverpool to Dublin has ceased! Can anyone confirm this? The only ferry service seems to be 8 hours, and even on the site Brian suggested, comes out at almost £600, is that a fair price? Maybe I have just been spoilt with cheap air fares for too long! If anyone can suggest a ferry service from Liverpool to Belfast or Dublin I would very much appreciate it! We tried the Hollyhead service about 7 years ago, and we thought the journey from Bristol to Hollyhead was a nightmare, so would rather depart from Liverpool! Look forward your suggestions!! Best bet for a ferry is Stranraer to Larne.

I'm from belfast and don't normally get ferry, i just fly by easyjet to the mainland but obviously you need to use a ferry for your car..

To answer your first question, yes seacat went bankrupt about a year ago because of increase in low cost flights, a mate of mine worked in the bar on the seacat and was put out of a job!

Cheapest ferry service i know of is Larne to Stranraer (Larne being an hour from Belfast and Stranraer obviously a bit further from Liverpool).  

I think the best idea for you would be norfolkline, try out quotes on their website http://www.norfolkline-ferries.co.uk .  I tried one for 2 adults and 3 children for you with a car and it came to £250.  Thats from liverpool to belfast and return, seems to be the best price

yes i get the norse irish ferries over to birkenhead as thats changed to it no long docks at liverpool xx

hss 1 hour 30 min sailing or sea cat troon to Belfast

Hello Amanda,

                         I will confim that the seacat has ceased trading to Dublin from Liverpool. and advise you that it's not too much of a distance for you to drive to Pembroke and sail to Roslare, this is a year round Ferry, and is a lot better for you than the long drive to Liverpool and that's the truth, then it's out of the docks at Roslare and it's all on one road to Dublin, you might also check the  port of, Fishguard and see if they do their Fishguard to Roslare sailings too, I only used this route back in the 1970s when I was driving Trucks too and from my Home country of Ireland. good luck now and I hope this really helps you......Bye......Tony M
