I have no friends or family in Canada but I still want to move there from the UK by myself - what would be my best option? I have seen groups of tourists going about in the UK.. how would I get into such a group if I was going to Canada and is there agencies for that type of thing? They take a group of tourists around all the major attractions and set them up for the night in some hotel.

  1. The groups of tourists you saw may have been part of a package deal and traveling together.  There are similar tours available here.  I've been to many places and usually travel alone.  It's always nice to be part of a group for a while on a tour I've found, because you see more and learn more.

If you move to Calgary, it's a pretty nice city.  But very expensive to buy or rent property in.  That's all because of the booming oil economy which basically finances the province.  Taxes are quite low there, and lifestyle is above average for most compared to the rest of Canada.  Winters can be brutal sometimes or pretty good other times.  The weather varies a lot because of the 'chinook winds', which are warm winds from the mountains that can cause tremendous temperature swings in just a couple of hours in the winter.

There are lots of jobs there, but like I said housing is pricey to the max!   You won't find cheap places to live there compared to most of the rest of the country.

  2. to have a tour holiday here you would be best to contact your travel agency....or go to www.mytravel.co.uk or thomas cook.

to relocate here... there are lots of jobs advertised in your local newspaper for various sponsored jobs in alberta for plumbers, truck drivers oil workers etc.. what do you do?

also if you are unable to get a company to sponser you then you must apply to Canada House in london for immigration and you will go thru on a point system meaning does canada want and need your expertise? it can be a long process.

good luck and know that calgary is very busy and expensive.

i am a brit who moved to calgary, alberta in 1975 and now live in british columbia

  3. If you want a tour group check with Brewster Tours.  They have a lot of great tours throughout Alberta and BC.
