  1. I just got back from Cuba last week. I didn't take my cell because I didn't know if it would work there. After some enquiries I was told if your server is Rogers it will work. I'm not trying to plug Rogers. My phone would not have been of any use.

For your electrical equipment, buy a converter with all the different plug-ins. They are cheep and most luggage stores carry them.

  2. Cell phone:  You can go to Cubacel, office at Centro de Negocios (business center) next to Hotel Melia Habana in the area of Miramar, west of Habana malecon.  They will activate it in case you have no line.

  3. Just one thing, Tropical answered very well however all cell phones won't work in Cuba,  mine doesn't, it depends on your server so check with them first.

  4. Yes they will work...as long as you have the right plug adapter and converter for your appliances. Cuba’s electricity is 110 volts, 60Hz, but most hotels and resorts have 220 volts. Electrical outlets take flat plug prongs.

Be sure to take the right adapters for the right appliances. If I'm not mistaken, an adapter for a cellphone, PDAs, chargers may be different than for a curling iron.

As for currency, it is better to take CAD dollars as opposed to US funds. If you convert US to CUC, there will be a 10% charge...CAD will not incur a charge.

Visa and Mastercard and CAD travellers cheques are accepted...no American Express (or any other credit card or travellers cheques from a US financial institution.)

If you choose to book trips on your credit card, it will be charged in US dollars.

Tipping in CUC is preferrable. If you ever need to tip in CAD dollars (especially if you didn't have a chance to change your money as soon as you landed), just remember the loonies, toonies and other coin are of no use for them. They can't use them...bills work for them....and not out of greed or expectation, but they would have difficulty exchanging it for themselves.

Don't change all your money all at once. Change as you need...it is advisable to change your money back to CAD coming back home since CUC have no value outside of Cuba.

Have a beautiful time in Cuba! Be prepared to not want to come back home lol......for sure you'll go back soon after.

  5. using a cell phone in cuba is going to cost you! I  wouldn't do it if I were you. If been twice, it's amazing. leave the technology at home and enjoy your vacation!
