Going to Dublin for christmas any recommendations ,eating out, places to see etc?

Christmas is a big event here.  Everywhere closes on Christmas Day and there is no public transport either.  In recent years lots of sales start on St. Stephen's Day - 26th.  The previous answer is correct about it being a family day.  Its not the done thing to just call in.  

The city will be very busy and quite uncomfortable in the week just before Christmas in that it will be crowded and the shops full of people so not a very pleasant shopping experience.  Also restaurants (none of them close christmas eve in my experience although they will stop serving earlier than usual, but all close for Christmas Day and most for St. Stephens day) will be madly busy and most will require reservations. Shops will be open late in the week before Christmas but will close early (about 5) on christmas eve.

All of the museums, galleries, etc will also close over the two or three day period so not much will be happening.

Nevertheless welcome to Ireland and I hope you enjoy yourself.  If you find us not as friendly as usual it is only because we are stressed trying to find that essential last minute gift!

All of the cities are crazy at Christmas, with panic buying and traffic congestion. I advise getting out, staying in one of the smaller towns, and getting to know some of the locals.

Be advised that in Ireland, Christmas is unofficially 'family lockdown' day - you cannot arrive at people's houses unless you have arranged it beforehand. Showing up on Christmas Day without an appointment is not appreciated, as it is very much a family day.

Be advised also that all pubs  and many restaurants will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Stay away from temple bar[i live there ha] try the market bar or hit camden street good pubs whelans anseo the village good music there to....eh eating the elephant and the castle i a good spot.

Yessss i went to dublin at the end of september for my 18th!

Temple bar is always good, go to the guiness factory and do the dublin tour! The people are so friendly, so if your not sure on where places are etc, they're normally happy to help you out.

How old are you? if your interested in the clubbin scene, few places that i enjoyed are- temple bar, fitzsimons, boomerang!

Hope you have a good trip
