Going to Florence and Tuscany in October... does anyone have anything to suggest?

Firenze really is full of tourists, it's almost impossible to anything other than the skyline! (maybe that is as I'm 5ft).

I live in Tuscany for half of the year and my all time favourite place is Lucca, half an hour from Pisa airport.  It will take your breathe away.  Also travelling here out of season means you will not get ripped off.  Try Viareggio or a little up the coast Darsena, fantastic for the nightclubs.

climb all the steps to the top of the duomo.  head to the boboli gardens in the afternoon for a refreshing break in the foliage.  walk the ponte vecchio at dusk and windowshop the jewelry.  shop the open-air markets, so much fun.  

if you can get a little south of tuscany, head to the town of deruta.  amazing ceramics!

Everything in that area is wonderful.

I suggest that you also go to the Cinque Terre (close to Florence).

When you are in Florence go to all the beautiful churches and museums that you can. Sit on the bridge at sunset with a bottle of wine. Take a very long walk and explore the "other" side of the river (outside the centre).

Do NOT think that a train will ever run on time (that is part of La Dolce Vita - the sweet life).

I envy you. An excellent season to go to Italy. If you have time go to Sienna del Campo. Drink a good white wine and a Birra! Good trip.

Depends on what you like to do -  I've been to Florence twice - if you're really into art or art history - then  the Uffizi is a must - it's on the main plaza.  Also on the main plaza is an outdoor area with some great old statues.  There's a church on the plaza where you can see fabulous tombs of people like Machiavelli.  You can also see David, of course.  But there's always a line, I think.  For shopping - leather and gold are the items the area is known for.  For great little souvenirs, they have all sorts of cute little leather things that are affordable, even in the "touristy" type shops.  Outside Florence, highly recommend going into the hills for dining and just seeing some beautiful landscape.  Wear comfortable shoes and just enjoy it all.  Beautiful, beautiful city.

every body suggested u about firenze but i tell u take a tour to vineyards where they will take you to different vineyards and show how they make wine and all....which will be the grt experience...

try to go each day to different cities like..san geminiano,vinci,siena,....etc.

u will get all the information at INFORMATION OFFICE at florence railway station.

best time to travel to italy weather will be perfect..and i forgot to tell u onethong in october there is festival related to the wine i forgot the name...they celerated in small small cities of toscan with fireworks,dances and all...try that also..

In Florence, take a walking tour of the city, go to see David, Pitti Palace, Duomo, hang out at Signoria Piazza, see the city landscape from Michelangelo Piazza and go to a concert in a little church if available.

The rest of Tuscany, Lucca or the Wall City is fun.  You can ride a bicycle on the wall surrounding the town.  Of course the famous leaning tower at Pisa.  We enjoyed San Gimignano or the Towers City.  It is similar to Siena but less crowded and crazy.  

Cinque Terre is not really in Tuscany.  It is a little further north along the west coast.  However, it is a great region.
