High school junior going to france this summer and I want to take clothes that 'fit in' reletively with the French atmosphere. Temperature? Styles? And would they consider a miniskirt (that is not S****y) tacky / touristy?

  1. You will find that people in your age group in France don't dress all that differently than you do at home so don't be too concerned.

France has relatively mild summers compared to much of the United States although heat waves are not unknown.

Trying to fit in is something of an exercise in futility since the moment you open your mouth people will realize that you're not a local.

But don't worry about it. France gets almost 80 million tourists every year so you will "fit in" in the sense that you will just be another of the horde of tourists wandering around.

P.S. I was there just a few weeks ago and I saw a lot of girls wearing mini-skirts.

  2. just wear the same clothes, you wear at home, but be careful sometimes it can get windy , watchout for the voyeurs

  3. This is tricky because a lot of clothes are similar on both sides of the Atlantic. The trick is that sometimes it's all put together differently.

Be careful of shoes and too obvious American gear, like sweatshirts with college names displayed prominately. You don't want to wear shoes that are too athletic-looking.

Try not to look like you just came from the gym. You also don't want to be too casual. For a girl, it's best to avoid standard boxy T-shirts although one that is fitted and styled would work. I want to say avoid bright colors but watch, that will be all the rage by next summer so be flexible on that.

It depends on the miniskirt. I wouldn't think that would be too comfortable for a lot of walking and sightseeing. Shorts aren't worn too often but capri pants in summer, especially with sandals (not sports shoes) work well.

Bring plenty of basics and a few things that you're really comfortable wearing. If you're here in August, you can take advantage of the sales!

  4. I wouldn't suggest a miniskirt, but jeans and tops are perfectly fine.  Jeans with white sneakers are a dead giveaway that you're an American, though, so steer clear of that combination.  Wear nice loafers instead.

  5. you know, in France, we dress exactly like in America... If you go south, it will be very warm bu colder in the evenings, if you go north, don't forget do bring a good coat coz it rains a lot.

And don't worry for the miniskirt (though, is it still in fashion? I don't see many people wearing them nowadays... then again, it's winter...)

And most french high school girls look touristy and tacky anyway, so I'm sure you'll fit in just fine^^ no offence...
