Question:

Going to France in October and Mass at Notre Dame - I'm not Catholic and I don't speak French, help?

I'm accompanying a friend to church services on my visit to France. I am familiar with Mass in US Catholic churches but not sure what to expect in this case as I am used to services in English. Any suggestions? I'm not Catholic, but I respect the faith, so anything to help me not look too clueless is appreciated.

  1. Ah for the days when the Mass was said in Latin and everyone could always be on the same page ( and/or equally bewildered).

If you are familiar with the Mass as it is said in English in the United States then you will not find any part of the Mass as said in French in Paris any different.

The Mass is, after all, the same, whether said in Notre Dame de Paris or Our Lady of Perpetual Motion in Sandusky, Ohio.

  2. Just stand when we stand, sit when we sit and shake your neighboors hand when they ask and just look around and do as they do, lol. and just say amen when everyone says amen, lol.

  3. that's ok, most people in France are British immigrants now
