I am thinking about going to Germany as an exchange student either in my Junior or Senior year! My mom wants me to wait till I'm a senior because she says when your a Junior you do a lot of things (such as psats...etc) that get ready for college! So i was wondering what you all thought what year would be better! and what i would miss if i went my junior year or what i would miss if i went my senior year!

  1. Hi,

I think you better listen to your mother, as what she is saying is right. Why do you wish to miss your senior year? Anyway write to postmaster@daad.de for further information about what you wish to do as http://www.daad.org is the official website to assist students who wish to study in Germany.

    Bye!

  2. Your best year to go is your junior year. It makes scheduling much easier -- if you need an extra credit for something you can pick it up when you get back. Also, you will be able to come back and enjoy your senior year and graduate with your class! A big plus. In addition, you will be able to talk to other people about being an exchange student and help prepare them.

You may be able to arrange the PSAT before you go. You can definitely take the SAT overseas. Kids do it all the time. What you would have much more trouble doing is filling out applications and working on scholarship material if you are overseas!

For some general info on being an exchange student, check out http://www.exchangestudentworld.com/

It's an online community of current and former exchange students.

    Good luck!

  3. My first reaction was, "Why would you want to miss your senior year?"  But then I thought about it, and I think I'm with your mother on this.  My biggest concern would be dealing with a weird grading system abroad and not knowing how you might compete in another country.  If you end up doing poorly, you may have trouble getting into college.  By senior year, if you have some trouble, your college applications will be in already and you won't be risking as much.  During your junior year, you can visit colleges and make up your mind about where you want to go.  You can always apply online, regardless of where you are.

  4. Didn't u take the psat during somophmore year? that wat my whole skool did.

I think that you should go during your junior year because during your senior year you have to prepare for college and stuff.

If you go you senior year i think that it'll be hard to get the help that u might need to fill out your scholarship forms and other important things.

Plus, i think that if u want to take the SAT you can do it anytime in high school(u just have to study it really well) and in the first two months as a senior so that you can get ur results back in time to send in ur transcript(not really sure).
