Going to Ireland for a holiday for a week any reccomendations?

Question

Looking to go to Ireland in summer for a week or so any suggestions? Needs to be plenty to do, horse riding or pony trecking for children age 7 and 10 and me aged 37, I would like to gallop horse through water on beach. Nice hotel good food etc. Any reccomendations appreciated.

Yeah,  make sure you dont stay anywhere inside. and pack ahead your own lunches.

I'd be inclined to say Galway city, it has all the amenities you'd be looking for. safe city, nice people, good restaurants and hotels. just avoid end July august bank holiday weekend,. Galway Races on and prices are horrendous. You could use Galway as the hub for your holidays, near by you can go walking in the burren and Connemara. picturesque country side. then there is the arann islands. trust me you wont go too far wrong.

Stay away from Dublin, its a tourist trap, Try the west coast Cities like Galway and Cork in the south west.

My boyfriend and I just came back from 2 months in County Galway.  We stayed in Carna, Leenane (on Harbour - one of the BBC's 50 places to see before you die!) and Recess, all in Connemara.  I would thoroughly recommend Co. Galway but get away from Galway city - overrun with tourists in the summer and you can have much more fun somewhere else (such as somewhere near Clifden or Spiddal).

We also visited Co. Mayo, though, and I have to say they were the most beautiful beaches we saw.  Mayo is gorgeous and really should be considered.

We booked cottages through Imagine Ireland (www.imagineireland.co.uk) and Shamrock Cottages (www.shamrockcottages.co.uk) and we have just booked some more for another 2 months leaving on Fri, through both these sites.

Imagine Ireland is a better website but they are more expensive overall, and Shamrock tend to cater for those 'out of the way' cottages more, so you get peace and tranquility.  

However, you might find with kids that a holiday village is more your thing, so perhaps try Hoseasons (www.hoseasons.co.uk) as they specialise in that kind of thing.  We stayed in one in Co. Clare in Doolin, during June last year and it was lovely.  Doolin is also to be recommended as there is a visitor centre which offers loads of organised activities - great if you've got kids!  It also has an internet cafe, and they're not all that common throughout Ireland.

Otherwise, my favourite county has to be Co. Kerry, for its sheer gorgeousnous.  It is so beautiful.  If you go there, then I recommend Killarney - it's a big enough town centre, has an astoundingly beautiful national park and has loads to do, plus it's easy to get out and explore the surrounding area from there.   I promise you you won't be disappointed there (incidentally we're heading back there next week).

If I were you and had to pick anywhere I would go for Killarney.

Plan a trip around the country if you can. It aint that hard, our country is not that big. Start in Dublin , check out a few of the theatres ,pubs and if you are lucky ,get to go to a hurling or gaelic football match in croke park. Well worth it ! Even though I am Irish ,I have been to plenty of soccer matches , and a college football game in the US , but the atmosphere is electric.

From there, hit down the country, and stop and see kilkenny castle, rock of cashel in tipperary. Then go on down to west cork and kerry and the scenery will take the breath away. Its fantastic ! Then go up to Dingle in north kerry and experience the social life, again, in summer , you might get a festival down there !

After that , my advice is to go up to "Bunratty" in County Clare. It has a castle and a made up village and that would let you see how people hundreds of years ago in this country. THe castle is amazing too.

Finally , hit up the west to Galway .This is where you go for great nightlife ,scenery and have a good time.

Rathmullan, Co. Donegal.

Its got lots of very clean beach, a horse riding place, pubs, cafes, walk, B & B's, the scenery is awsomely breathtaking.

My Mum was from there and I still have family there, it's a wonderful place and surrounded by the atlantic, my Aunt has a great Guest House, and she will look after you and yr Children, they will love it.

galway is good but with children I would stay away from the city try Wexford great beaches pubs and res taunts plenty of things for the kids to do as well hope this helps

I recomend galway.Its in ireland.Stay in a village called spiddal.You then go to galway city or go around connamara.
