Question:

Going to Ireland in a few days. Is it relatively safe for me to "hang out" in pubs, shop, etc. alone?

I ask because my other family members will be playing golf, which doesn't interest me, for most of our holiday. Read some things on the internet (I know!...) which makes me a bit wary of being unescorted. Any truth to that? We won't be in Dublin - mostly Cork County if anyone knows. Please, people, just truthful responses :) Thank you! xo

  1. Where do you come from  [mars]

  2. I honestly don't see the problem. The internet is 95% fabricated and exaggerated!!! You just need to watch out for things that would happen to you i you stepped into any other bar in your area.

  3. In shops you would be perfectly fine, nothing to worry about there. The only place i wouldnt hang out by myself is the bars and pubs and clubs. Because you dont know the area and where to go if something happened. Id advise you to stay with another person or a few people if you are thinking of hanging out at pubs. Yet again, it always depends where you go, if you go somewhere nice you might be ok, its just town that id be worried about because people come from all over there.

  4. you should always be careful when traveling alone. especially at a bar or pub, and especially in a different country!

  5. i love how all the girls say yes and all the boys say no..

you should always be cautious- no matter what country you are in there are still creepers!!

  6. If you've never been to the country then no, shopping you'd be relatively safe, but a pub on your own in dublin is a no. I wouldn't go to a pub on my own in dublin and i know the city well, the same goes for cork or any city in ireland.

Remember you are in a different country and there are always dodgy people about

  7. no.

  8. no..it's not even safe to hang out alone in your home town.

  9. its grand just dont go to pubs id say!! shoppings grand like i always do it!! go to mahon point maybe!!

  10. yea you should be safe on your own!! i go around the town on my own the whole time and there is no problem with it!!!

  11. You should be safe enough.  Just be street smart like you are back home and if a situation feels wrong then get away from it or ask for help (if you can find a Guard).  And no, you cannot buy Mace in this country - not legally.

  12. You should be okay, take a book or a newspaper with you and if you're a little nervous about being on your own, find a comfortable seat within in the line of sight of the bar staff.  Lots of the bars & pubs provide meals, coffe and tea during the day as well so you should be fine.  If you don't fancy spending the day in the golf club bar there are plenty of cafes around Cork city and some really great shopping.

  13. you should be fine.  You might have to avoid some slobber once the Guinness gets flowing.  Be nice to the staff.   Enjoy the crack and try not too complain all the time (wait till you see the prices)  Be sure to visit middleton brewery and dine in ballymaloe house if you are a foodie.
