Question:

Going to London... Drinking?

I'm about to go to London, and i'm already familiar with the drinking laws in place there, but i'm currently 16. I look a little older than that, and can act older than my age. What's the deal in terms of some pubs not carding me, and liquor stores not carding me? Do i have a chance to legititmately drink there or not?

  1. The drinking age here is 18 and, contrary to public opinion, we are not more relaxed about the law.

Most pubs, clubs and shops selling alcohol are strict about IDing people. At 23, I am still regularly asked for ID and I don't look that young at all. If staff serve underage drinkers, they risk losing their license so they rarely take the chance.

Of course, there are some places that don't bother to check IDs so you may get away with it. However, in central London, a lot of pubs and clubs only accept driving licenses and passports, and they have scanners which show up fake IDs.

To be honest, you can have a great time in London without drinking at all - so I wouldn't risk it. Who wants to get in trouble for underage drinking on a trip? Just have a good time!

  2. Sorry, you will be arrested if you try that stunt.

Stay at home and drink a glass of milk.
