Going to Mexico, anyone know what constitutes a "good gift" to leave house keeping?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good practical gifts to leave the housekeeping staff in Mexico. Monetary tips are easy, in Cuba we left old jewelery and bubble gum (apparently they can't get gum there). Any ideas that the staff will appreciate would be helpful, thanks!

  1. american dollars and a thank you note about how the room was always maintaned greatly and the staff was friedly.

  2. Pesos ... don't try to guess what they want

Very little is hard to get in Mexico

  3. Cash is the best.

  4. Take the easy way.  They will appreciate cash more.

  5. We always left  pesos and since we were checking out and going home anyway, we left most of what we had left over. I'm sure they appreciated it a lot more than if we'd taken them home with us and stuffed them in a drawer some place.  Maids don't get paid a lot so these extra "pesos" always help them out.  Also, leave a note for the manager about how clean the room always was and any extra things housekeeping did for you.
