Question:

Going to Mexico as a minor? Do you really need a notarized letter?

Me and four of my friends would like to travel to Mexico via Greyhound. We all have passports and can obtain our birth certificates if necessary. Do we still REALLY need a notarized letter from our parents giving us consent to cross the border? Some say it is no longer a law, others contradict this. Is this law extremely strict?

  1. Yes it is the law...you may or may not be asked for the letters...you never know...but it is Mexican law and you can be truned away. And you WILL need those birth certificates.  See site below and read section on MINORS under "Entry Requirements."  Geyhound ( far as I know, and i am quite familiar with buses in Mexico) does not go into Mexico, but does connect with Mexican bus lines.

  2. Charlie gave you good info however I must say any parent that lets their teenager go to mexico unaccomptioned has rocks for brains. It isn't safe.I doubt you understand they are looking for americans just like you to lock up for the least reason and milk your family till they're broke and then keep you for 4 or 5 years longer.I am not joking. It happens it all the time.research it before going. It is scary. I go every year but I am 50 plus and know how to conduct myself. Yes you would need all your documents.Reconsider please.
