  1. As far as restaurants go, there's so many... but here's a few recommendations...

Pure Food and Wine: It's a crazy macrobiotic raw foods restaurant (sounds weird, I know...). Which means that everything is vegan and not cooked past 118 degrees. I am a huge meat eater, but I had one of the more interesting meals of my life here. It has positives and negatives, but it's definitely an experience.

Cafe Bruxelles: Great Belgian food and beer. Excellent mussels and frites. Cozy and comfortable. Reasonably priced for NYC.

Little Italy: Yes, I know it's touristy, but you are a tourist, right? Just pick a place and sit outside and have a great Italian meal. Perfect for lunch time. Definitely entertaining...

Otherwise, I'd suggest checking out Yelp.com. You will find a ton of great suggestions on there.

    EDIT

By the way, if you want the best pizza, you have to go to New Haven, CT (Frank Sinatra used to send his limo driver from NYC to New Haven to pick up pepperoni pizzas and drive them back). Sorry :)

  2. Rooftop bar 230 5th, its actually on the roof outside, but be prepared to spend a lot, $10 beer, $12-$15 mixed dink $16-$20 martini

good pizza is anywhere far away from times square

it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.

you should also try the yummiest Pizza Margherita at  'Lil Frankie  in East Village ^,^
