Question:

Going to New Zealand to pick Kiwi?

My friend and I are planning to take up this job offer to work in some Kiwi orchard in New Zealand. Work permit for a year. Supposedly you can earn between MYR 6K to MYR 8K per month. The agent in Sabah will arrange for the work permit. However, we'll have to fork out the money for the airfare and the work permit. Location is in Hasting. Anyone has any advice or caution to give us?

  1. Yup, you've missed the kiwiFRUIT picking season. Starts in April, goes to early May. Kiwifruit orchards around Hastings are fairly rare - check you are not being conned.

    A note: to NZers, a kiwi is either a bird (nearly extinct so you are not allowed to pick them;

    A native-born person of New Zealand;

    or the NZ dollar in comparison to foreign currencies.

    If you wish to pick grapefruit, you wouldn't go out looking for grapes. So it's the same with kiwifruit.

    The trade name for them is Zespri, and a new hairless variety is called Kiwiberry.

  2. Its late in the kiwifruit season now, only a few weeks left (in the B.O.P anyway), but get into apples in hastings when that starts
